Some Forum Posts:

Kenya: a visit to Kenya:

I know of a great safari company that I used for teams and interns for years. If you want, PM me and I'll give you the info.

Kenya: car shipping:

In my opinion, it's far easier to buy a car there than to ship your car. i don't know if you're right hand or left hand drive but if left hand, don't even think about it. You get killed on the highways. There are plenty of cars (new and used) to purchase. They do cost a bit more so do some research and see what you can buy and if it will suffice. If you do decide to import your car, plan on the import taxes and duties as well as the inevitable bribes you'll have to pay to collect it. Good luck.

Kenya: American Contacts:

I lived and worked there for 3 years. I'd be happy to converse on any topic you wish. Send me a PM and it'll be easier.

Kenya: Mini for sale:

I am the proud new owner of a beautiful red Mini. The only problem is, I'm in the U.S. and the Mini is in Nakuru. Circa 1972 (but I could be off). It's been restored with newer paint, interior, dashboard, etc. The car is in good mechanical condition only that it currently needs a battery and spark plugs. 130,000 KeS firm. For pick up in Nakuru only. I'd recommend you arrange transport as I've never attempted to drive it all the way to Nairobi. If you're interested, shoot me a message with your email address and I'll send you pics. It's a good car...this is the second time I've owned it.

Kenya: Moving in March:

Depends on your budget. A private home might work but then security is up to you. There are some luxury apartments in Westlands and near Junction that have good security and little way for thieves to "home invade". Try along Rhapta Road (sp?) in Westlands or James Gacheru Road in Junction.

Kenya: Help offer in Kenya:

My apologies for being abrupt but if you're post is to ask for money to move you all to Africa, I think you're in the wrong forum. My 2 cents.

Kenya: Walking dogs, Hikking, mountain biking and 4x4:

Hi - As far as walking dogs is concerned you should have no problems. In fact, the Kenyans are so frightened of dogs you should have less problems than if you were walking by yourself. you will get stares and people will avoid you but you and the dogs will be as safe, if not safer, as on any other outing in Nairobi.

Kenya: Why is Kenya Rentals so Expensive?:

it's a simple supply and demand issue. The demand in Nairobi is high and therefore the rent is expensive. Las Vegas has been hit so hard by the (double) recession that there is a low occupancy rate. Therefore the supply is much higher than the demand...and rent is low. Another factor is the advantage that the Kenyans take when rich Mzungus come in and ask for rental properties at well over market value...hence increasing the expectations or the landlords and artificially inflating the rental rates.

Kenya: New to Nairobi - Accommodation Advise and other suggestions:

I would say the following areas are fairly good... Westlands Hurlingham Lavington Kilileshwa Kilimani Junction Opposite of your idea of T-Mall but close to other malls and good Mzungu areas.

Kenya: PIN and Shipping Possessions:

I had to get a PIN in Kenya myself. I think it was to buy a car but I could be mistaken. Either way, I needed one. The process was easy (as Kenyan bureaucracy goes). Good to have it regardless.
