Cyprus: RELOCATING , HELP ADVICE URGENTLY NEEDED:
I can give you the name and contact details of both my accountant and my company formation providers between them they may be able to advise you on any regulatory requirements in setting up the academy and can certainly help with the company formation. You would need to find premises for this venture and need to know where would be the best place to situate it.
Limassol and Nicosia probably have the largest numbers of kids that would be interested as they have the greater number of schools particularly international ones as I assume all training will be in English.
You really would need to come over to have a look around and once you have found the right location and site then you would have to pursue the rest of it.
Drop me an email if you want details of accountant etc.

Cyprus: Welding jobs in Cyprus:
Be careful. Skilled jobs are hard to come by here. I have never seen a job advertised for a tradesman and I have lived here 7 years. It is possible that these type of jobs are advertised in the Greek language press, but I would guess that you would have to speak Greek to be considered. Also the average daily wage for a qualified tradesman is around CYP 60 per day. Not much when compared to the cost of living which increases daily.
The cost of Foley's International School in Limassol starts from CYP 2100 p.a. for Reception class ( age 4 & 5) through to CYP 4,500 p.a. for forms for ages 10 to 13. There are a couple of cheaper options but not excessively so. It is a lovely place to live with a great quality of life but it has its drawbacks particularly on the employment side
Good luck

Cyprus: builder looking for work can you help?:
Hi Mark,
If you are working for someone else you are looking at about CYP 60 per day.
If you set up on your own you are likely to make much more. The standard of workmanship here is abysmal, so any one good is highky sort after. The only stumbling block initially may be how you source the raw materials, of course you will find them at the DIY stores but to get the best deal you want to be going direct to the importers, that will take sometime to build up a relationship with them not least as some do not speak English
As per Bill's comments above come over and do a fact finding mission, I would be happy to meet with you to point you in the right direction where possible.
Good Luck

Cyprus: help with relocation:
Hi Sarah Jane
Re: whether or not to leave your money in the Bank in UK or bring it all here. Much depends on what your intentions are for the monies.
If this money is all to be used to buy property/business and for living expenses in Cyprus then transfer it, however if some of it is to be kept as savings or for other investment purposes it may be wise to keep some in the UK until you have decided how best to make use of it.
In either event I would recommend that you keep a small balance on the account in the UK to keep it open. It is very difficult to open a UK bank account once you are an expat so always best to keep your existing one.
I know a couple of people in the Gardening business and they are kept busy so I imagine it would be a profitable business.
What kind of other business were you thinling of buying. I posted details of a Kids playland on one of the boards recently, if you want further info let me know. I also know that one of the Pizza Mia take away franchises in Limassol is for sale. Not cheap at around CYP 400k but the turnover is good.
Drop me an email before you arrive and I will give you my telephone number and we can arrange to meet up.

Cyprus: Important info regarding property purchase in Cyprus:
Hi
I have just learned that as of May 1 2004 VAT of 15% will be levied on property purchases.
My lawyers are unsure as to how it will be applied whether it will be applied to any outstanding payments on existing contracts or just on new contracts executed from May 1
If you think this may affect you please contact me and I will attempt to assist in finding more info
