Brazil: Online school in the US but wanting to move to Brazil:
I would pick Rio over São Paulo any day!
You could also consider some other great cities too! The Northern cities have beautiful beaches and are a little cheaper too.
Anelll, why do you say Rio and Sao Paulo are more expensive than New York? In my experience, I have found both cities more expensive than elsewhere in Brazil, but housing costs and food costs (basic needs) are still much cheaper than in New York.
How are you making this comparison?
Brazil: 90 days almost up. Options on Tourist visa:
I'm a Canadian currently in Brazil on a tourist visa that has a 180 days maximum per year allowance, and 90 days stay maximum per entry.
I forgot about the 90 days maximum and realize that it is coming up fast in about 7 days. My plan was to stay here for another 2 or 3 weeks only. I don't know if it makes sense to go to the Military Police to ask for an extension., I'm reading various things that it will count towards my one time only 90 day extension which I don't want to waste if I am only staying an extra few weeks.
So, if I read the rules on the visa correctly, should I not be allowed to take a quick flight to Buenos Aires and stay for 2,3 or 4 days. (a visa run, I suppose they call it). Then fly back and re-enter on a new passport stamp valid for 90 days?
I am still within my 180 day allowance, so I don't see why there would be a problem. I can't find any information on the internet about how long I have to be out of the country before coming back in. There doesn't seem to be any restrictions on that on my visa. I am looking for advice as I am in a bit of a jam here....

Argentina: Software Consulting in Buenos Aires:
Considering a move to Buenos Aires for three months. Currently I am an indendent Software Consultant at a very senior level. Typically with a client I will work for 3 months to a year on a project doing software develoment, software architecture, team development, and process improvement. I would welcome the opportunity to work with a new client or so in BA for a short term arrangement of a few days a week for a while or 5 days a week for an agreed upon term.
Thoughts about the market there. I speak little spanish, but understand many large organizations there are fluent in English anyway.
I typically bill at about $2500 to $3000 a week in North America, but I would be willing to offer my services for less in Buenos Aires.

Argentina: Ecuador/Peru/Chile to BsAs by Rental Car - One Way:
I think the best way for me to comfortably explore S.A. is by car. Trains/buses are too sketchy and uncomfortable from what ive read - car lets me go where and when I want.
Preferrably I'd leave from Peru (N. Chile maybe) and drive down the Chilean coast through the andes and mendoza wine country into Southern Chile - spend time Ushuaia and the areas around there - maybe glaciers too
then work my way up the other side of the coast to Bs. As. and likely stop there.
Does anyone have any advice or recommendations on this?
Argentina: Moving to Argentina:
Hi Kelly,
I am in the same boat as you. I am looking at Buenos Aires or Europe. I went to Buenos for almost 2 weeks earlier this year and thought it was phenominal, although I do have some reservations on the cost of accomodations for a relatively short term foriegner. Did your friend give any advice perhaps on finding relatively cheap accomodation? Personally, that's my only concern about this move for me.
Argentina: IT Consulting in Argentina:
I'm a Software Developer and Software Architect currently living in Canada (I am Canadian) with the intention of moving abroad.
I look at the types of rates that can be had by IT consultants and companies here in Canada and companies are willing to pay $100 to $200(US/CDN) for consulting on the relatively high end. Independent contractors typically can find work at $50 to $80/hr through a recruiter.
My question, for someone wishing to live a nice lifestyle in Argentina - is it feasible to find similar lucrative consulting contracts with companies in Argentina or other S.A. countries?
Or would you recommend your business to stick to existing or new business clients from North America while working from home?
Any advice is appreciated, as I am planning on using business income from IT consulting to fund my living expenses abroad.

Global Expat Forum: Travel - Am I Making a Mistake? What I could gain or lose...:
Looking to live abroad for a year or more OR travel the world for a year. What's preventing me from leaving is not money - i have enough to survive. What I'm afraid of is what I'll be losing and leaving behind. My girlfriend.. I don't believe she would travel with me, although we haven't discussed it. If I left, she would certainly not wait for me, and I wouldn't expect her to. It would be very hard to lose her. At the same time I don't want to regret not reaveling for the rest of my life while I am still able to- it's something i've been wanting to do for the last few years... (even before I met the girl)..
Travel makes me feel happy and excited... My relationship makes me feel happy and secure.... Advice??
There must be expats on here that have had to make tough or tougher decisions.
Advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation?
