India: Sharpening stones and puncture repair kits:

I am puzzled. I am my wits' end. Is it really possible that a country of over 1 billion people does not have two basic things that you need all the time? First: A sharpening stone for you kitchen knifes. I asked all my Indian friends and they said they don't know where to get one. What's more they say they never used one. When a knife becomes blunt they throw it away and buy a new one. This simply can't be true. It's obviously much faster and cheaper to sharben your knifes then going out to buy new one. A knifes loses its edge after a few weeks. Does anybody know the answer? Second: A puncture rapair kit and tyre levers for your bicycle. How can it be that I can't find them? What do people in India do when their bike has a flat? Push it kilometres to the next repair shop?
