Brazil: Does marrying a Brazilian give me Brazilian citizenship?:
If I remember correctly it will give you a residency status in Brazil. Then you will have to wait a few years (5 ?) to apply for citizenship. Be aware of how the IRS is going after Americans Living Abroad...
Brazil: Taxes:
Nighmare the IRS Taxes of an Amercan Living and working in Brazil. I have never moved one cent from the USA to onvest in Brazil. I have been working in Brazil since 2001 and all my investments here are made with money coming from my work. In Brazil Savings Accounts are not taxed... the US wants me to pay tax on it. In Brazil retirement income is not taxed...the US wants me to pay tax on it (Americans in France don´t pay this). And so on and so on... Adding the two cointries I am paying closeor more than 50% taxes...
Brazil: Retiree health insurance - hard to get?l:
Do you have an idea of where you are planning to be in Brazil?
Brazil: visa for wife:
I know a little how things will work if you are here in Brazil and marry a Brazilian and want to take you back with her. This will take up to six months and must be done thorugh the nearest US Consulate. But I don´t know much how you do from the USA. I am sure that if you access the USA Embassy in Brazil you will find instructions there. Or one of the USA Consulates.
Brazil: FIlling USA IRS from Brazil:
How do you do it? Know of any professional (CPA) helper?
Global Expat Forum: Are you self employed and living abroad?:
Yes, I am living in Brazil. I am having a difficult time filing my IRS as an American Living Abroad. Looks quite complicated to me. Is there one around Brazil willing to help?
Brazil: duel citizenship through marriage/ collecting SSDI in Brazil:
Medicare will not cover you in Brazil, including the prescription plan. I am not sure how you will move your SSDI from the USA to Brazil. Consult Social Security and they may have an answer. Someone told me that he kept a Credit Union in the USA and used an ATM Card in Brazil, this was the best way. To have a Bank account in Brazil you will have to marry first, then became a resident in Brazil with the Model 19 Card. Then have a bank account. You may have troubles having a Bank Account because of the demands of the Obama adminstration to have Brazilian banks filling reports on their American clientes residing in Brazil. Don´t forget, everuthing in Brazil runs slowly and is more disorganized and since there is no tax treaty between Brazil and the USA you may have to pay double taxation in both Countries. Be patient.
