China: Expat 'packages':

Hey there, I am currently speaking with a new company about returning to China after a three-year hiatus out of China. The company seems almost shocked that I expect additional compensation to offset the higher cost of housing and education. That is only the tip of the iceberg. Am I nuts!! Have expat packages disappeared or do they still exist. I understand that many companies want to establish long term employees at the lowest cost possible, and I have stripped my last package down to bare minimums to help this company, but I am ready to walk. Can someone tell me if I am on target here? I mean $35000 for housing, and $25000 for education (4 kids) is a blessing in my mind. It could be much worse.
