Brazil: Moving to Brazil visa options:

Hi there; from what you posted, Have you discussed this with A) your best girlfriend and B) your family? you posted that..."We are both ... pretty independent - both with great jobs, not cohabiting and have separate finances. Marriage is definitely on the table but neither of us want to rush it.... I know I'll be giving up everything in the States to relocate and may be financially dependent". Sounds like you want to be totally dependent on someone in a foreign land without a "network" to help you if things go south. You said..."he wants me to go with him as we plan on staying together and eventually getting married in a few years". At least if you were married you would be totally dependent on him but with the entitlements of marriage even in brazil. Dont let love blind you and cause you to get hit by a bus in brasil.

Brazil: International Driver's License in Brazil:

It's good to have but you really dont need it. your current U.S drivers license is OK. (most are good for 5 yrs before renewal. AAA only 1yr) I drive with mine when I'm in bahia 4 months out of the yr. and yes I have been stopped by the police at a check point. I have permanent residence and after 1 yr you're supposed to apply for brazil drivers license but I'm not that fluent in reading and speaking portuguese yet

Brazil: $100,000 USD Enough?:

You need to be more specific. is this your moving expense? living expense- how long? or what you will use to purchase or rent property?

Brazil: Morgan Trust CHASE Bank:

Do you have a permanent residence visa? if so, you can open an account in any Brazilian bank with your cpf #. To keep it short, the best thing to do is plan a trip to the US open an account with a "credit union" direct deposit your SSA and use a "Atm" card to make withdrawals. (not a Debit card) you get the best exchange rate. and very small fee if you use over your number of free withdrawals. I have been doing this a for a long time now. the only problem I have had in 5+ years was a Banco do Brazil atm ate part of my withdrawal. where some of the money went back into the machine. I was told to call my Bank(c.u) in the US. I dont use Banco do Brazil for anything. (I love Bradesco and hsbc).Bottom line move your account from chase before they close your account for no good reason.
