Brazil: Teach English in Brazil:

Honestrecruiter, I am almost in your exact same position. I am wanting to go live in Brasil for a while, learn the language more fluently and be able to get a job. I have had some experience. I went to Brasil for 9 weeks this past June and July to find out what is needed to get a job there. I actually applied for a job teaching English and asked them to apply for my work visa, but unfortunately did not get it. I think so many people are there who know English and are wanting to teach it that they chose someone who already had a work visa and didn't have to go through the application process. It is quite difficult to get a job, especially not being fluent in Portuguese. My plan has changed now since I have been and know the difficulties.I intend to go to a school in Florianopolis that will teach me Portuguese. The school is called Step 1. They have serveral different course you can participate in, they have you living with a Portuguese speaking family while you are enrolled and have activites for you to do outside of school hours. Florianopolis is such a beautiful city also. My intention is to go to school for about 3 months to learn enough Portuguese that someone will want to hire me. But I am definately taking a risk as the good job is rare to find. Just wanted to give you that suggestion as I hadn't thought of taking that route to enter in to the Brasilian culture at first. You can also apply for a work/study visa. When I went to visit the school, the owner said some students do that and can get jobs at some of the bakeries. Those without work visas get jobs also, getting paid under the table... the problem with that, is that you can't stay if you do because of the visa. Best of luck!

Brazil: study/work in Brasil:

Hi, Cayla here, I live in the states right now but have visited Brasil twice this year and am planning on coming to study in Florianopolis in March of next year. It is a school for me to learn Portuguese and am hoping to be able to get a job while I am studying and hopefully stay for a while with a job offer after the course has finished. I have been looking into the visa application process and have found one for study or for work, not for both. Does anyone have any previous experience/input in this area? Thanks.

Brazil: Au pair interest in Floripa?:

Hi, I am new to this site. I am an American looking into a possible move to the Floripa area. I am 22 years old and am looking for a family interested in an au pair/nanny. My boyfriend lives about an hour away from the island. I just got back to the states from a 2 month visit and have fallen in love with the country. Especially the Floripa area. I have tried to apply through an au pair web site, but au pairs in south Brasil are not very common. If anyone could be of help that would be great. I would be interested in starting to work after the first of the year (2011). I know a little bit of Portuguese and am interested in taking an intesive course when I arrive. Thanks so much, Cayla
