Some Forum Posts:

Ecuador: New residency requirement. You must learn to speak Spanish to become a resident:

As much as I would love to profit from this, it appears to be a hoax from Dia de Los Inocentes.

Ecuador: New Restaurant:

Any brick and mortar business venture business plan must account for the local population. Small cafes usually do well in the beginning but must have a plan for when the novelty is lost.

Ecuador: Sewer system:

It is clear that some people will always feel entitled to do as they please. At some point, it will back up on them.

Ecuador: Cutrure diference or spam?:

This has not been my experience. However, my spouse has been tapped for money by siblings. Luckily, most of the inlaws have done well. My mother and father n law never needed support and have been able to provide each child with their home or land. There have been some minor squabbles over who got what and when.

Ecuador: Feliz Año 2015! Who Lives in Ecuador_:

I arrived in Ecuador 24 years ago in Feb. It doesn't seem real but most of my friends are grandparents and are now called viejos like we used to refer to their parents. I married an Ecuadorean so we are a dual/national household and come and go. We have a crash pad in Ambato and just built a new house in a rural parish near Volcan Tungurahua. Someone just laughed at me recently when I said that there was no take out near my house. I love being able to see the volcano on a cloudless morning.

Ecuador: How many languages do you Speak?:

I teach both English and Spanish. I can survive with Kichwa. I know bits of French, German and Portuguese. Although, I am not sure if it is pure Portuguese because I picked it up from Brazilian clients and they also spoke their own version of Spanish. I studied Latin in college. I am currently absorbing Chinese.

Ecuador: Let's manage the economy and see what happens...:

the word that you need in taught not thought

Ecuador: All good things...:

I hope the 15 minutes of fame are over. If you don't like the forum then leave and start one to your liking. I just don't understand the time dedicated to the rants. Life is too short. Not to mention that this thread has nothing to do with Ecuador, which tends to confuse people who are looking for information on life in Ecuador, unless the goal is to show new comers that they should stay away from the expat community.

Ecuador: Check your Ego:

This has turned into an interesting, name calling kind of thread. The one thing that always stands out for me is that people in one instance write that they are no longer a guest because they live in EC but they then refer to their self as a gringo. Being referred to as a gringo, means that you are still set apart. Own your role and move on. As far as the warden thing, whoever wants the job go for it. I never pay attention to the warnings and I don't expect any assistance from the US. I don't even know who the warden is for this area. I come to EC to leave the stress behind, some of you really take things too seriously.

Ecuador: Residency requirements increasing?:

Yet another thread goes down the chute. The original interpretations of the law are now lost in the muck.
