About cmearl2

Ready for a new adventure. Was planning to move last year, sold my furniture, gave up my apartment, ticket in hand, then the day before Thanksgiving was given a not so nice surprise of cancer. Now that I have that treated, waiting for my one year checkup and picking up where I left off. I do not speak the language but always ready for a challenge. My family thinks I'm a little nuts, but they are use to me going my own way. They know once I have researched the topic, and made my decision, I'm going to go do what I want to do. Personally I think a little nuts is good, it keeps life interesting. I have 3 kids, and 5 grandchildren. I was married for 20 years, divorced for 20 years and looking forward to exploring new cultures, new ideas. I travelled quite a bit when I was the sales manager for a timeshare resale company. I would go to the various states to become licensed in that particular state. Last count I had 10 Real Estate licenses, 15 state adjusters licenses and 5 state notary licenses. While I was with the resale company I was sent to mainly Mexico, Virgin Islands, Bahamas yearly to update our files, the resorts, and to make new contacts. I loved the job because of all the traveling and meeting new people. I anticipate traveling and getting to know the locals and the gifts and talents they have to share. I have an idea for a small business opportunity and I will see how that turns out.

Advice for New Expats

Research, research and research again. Don't be afraid to try something new, but use common sense in your explorations.

Some Forum Posts:

Ecuador: Crime Stats for Last week Guayaquil:

Crowdpup: Let's face it crime everywhere is under reported. Rapes are always under reported everywhere. Petty crime a certain degree doesn't report this type of things because it takes longer to report it and chances are they aren't going to find the person responsible for the crime. So it isn't just Ecuador. Take care,Chris

Ecuador: Tragedy in the Andes:

Colorado Bill: So PayPal is basically charging 3.2% to send, is there a fee that you know of to receive. I'm trying to send some funds to my son in Isreal and for whatever reason the conversion tble they have is not working and shuts down my system and I can't see the transaction fees that they charge on both ends. I don't want to send monies that don't take into consideration the fees just you did with the $3.20. I have been trying to get this information for almost a week now. The send me a post how, but the buttons they say i should see aren't there, so I'm not sure what they are talking about and for then to post back is anywhere between 24-72 hours, so it gets lengthy sometimes waiting. I hope everything is well for you and your family. Take care of each other, Chris

Ecuador: So this is how the forum works:

Omega:This is the moderators sandbox, they pay for it to be on the interne, they spend their time trying to make it what THEY want it to be. The rules are posted and if you want to play in the sandbox you obey their rules. It is simple, most people don't have the problems that they have, because most people obey the rules and common decency in their posts. They have been warned repeatedly and they still decide to post things they should know are offensive. So who's fault is it? They would have been banned a long time ago on other sites and not given warnings as this site has afforded them. They have campaigned behind the scenes though that is what they accuse others of doing Booby supposedly contacted OceanHideaway about posting something that he didn't want to post, that was stated in her post if I have it correctly, so who has been trying to manipulate the rules? If you want to post you obey the rules, it is simple logic. Didn't mean to go off on a tangent. Take care, Chris

Ecuador: cell phone in EC (I know, I know...):

marciaz: This is Christine, I have to admit I stay in touch with my computer. I do not know how this works exactly but I understand that Skype can now be used on your cell phone. You might want to check in to that aspect of a cell phone or a laptop. I hope this helps some, I wish I had more specific information for you. Take care, Chris

Ecuador: Wikileaks, media issues:

crowdpub: Hi, this is Christine, Are you going to have kraut for those dogs with cheese? If not okay if you have relish to put on them. If so I will be there before I leave for Salinas. Take care, I see your humor finally opened some up to your brilliance. Chris

Ecuador: Extra Luggage Import Taxes:

maynard59: You will find still many helpful people on this site, but perhaps you would prefer the new site for newbies that this forum just started. I can recommend Silverwater(email agua_plata@hotmail.com) if you're looking to get some questions answered about permanent residency Take care, Chris

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Car service from Guayaquil to Salinas:

Hi, I remember see ing something about a car service from Guayaquil to Salinas and I thought I had saved it but now can't find it. Anyone know of the different car services? Please contact me. Thanks, Chris cmearl2@yahoo.com

Ecuador: French Vanilla Ice Cream in Cuenca?:

Let's remember you don't have to post a response just because someone asked a question. You can actually ignore it, especially if it is so far down on your list.

Ecuador: Crime! Crime! Crime!:

Nitro4blood: Have you beat! I went in for cancer surgery New Years Eve 2009, when my son went out to pick me up from my surgery on New Years Day the car was gone. Then in September of 2010 it was stolen again, both times taken for a joy ride, 1st times found 1 1/2 miles away and spare tire ans such things taken, 2nd time they left the screwdriver and several pop containers neither time would the police fingerprint anything even though you could visually see fingerprints on 2 of the containers. Can't stop thefts if you don't even look for the culprits. It wasn't like the car was anything specially, I purchased a beater when my first trip out of the country was cancelled literally at the last minute a 93' Saturn 4 door. Take care, Chris

Ecuador Welcome Forum: MOVING IN A FEW MONTHS NEED REALISTIC RENT PRICES BY THE BEACH:

menduca: It will help tremendously that you speak Spanish fluently. I just rented an apartment for Salinas. It was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath furnished unit, it started out at $500.00 plus condo fee and utilities, a friend was able to get it down to $350.00 + $50.00 condo fee 1/2 block from a quiet beach. You have to make adjustments because this is a condo no yard, I signed a one year lease. I have no experience with the area or the surrounding area, hope this helps a little. Take care, Chris
