Saudi Arabia: New in taif:
Taif isn't the best city in Saudi.
I was born and raised here and I have figured out to only like two things about it
1. Weather in summer.
2. The short drives to anywhere you like.
Oh, and which comes first is my family.
Saudi Arabia: Virtual Grocery Store in Taif:
Hi all,
after a really hard work, and for the first time in the Middle East, I would like to happily announce the all new Bab Shop.
We deliver your groceries at the comfort of your door.
For android users, I have created this application and uploaded it to DropBox.
While google is verifying the app, you can still have access to it through this link

Saudi Arabia: Massage Services:
Experienced Mobile Masseur.
Acquired skills from practical courses held in Canada, Dubai and Spain.
I have been practicing for a bit over 5 years.
I offer (Kamasutra, Tantra, Reflexology, Deep Tissue, Lumi Lumi)
Usually the sessions are home visits or given at a hotel of your choice.
I am located in Western Region covering Taif, Makkah and Jeddah. And I can manage to visit other parts upon request.
Saudi Arabia: Music and instruments?:
Hi SaudiAudi,
Music is banned in public, if someone was caught playing their instrument by the righteous police, the instrument gets seized.
I play Oud and I have a band- singers, oud players, drummers and ... fans too << they're a part of our band :-P
The only caution you might want to take is NOT to play in public. Yes, you can bring your instrument in, I have done that many times, in and out of Saudi.
Good luck
Saudi Arabia: Internet and other questions:
Hi there Sragan,
Yes, some sites are "censored" but there are alternatives, I personally use for blocked sites, that are available for free and can be used throughout the Gulf. You can still be able to access whatever you like.
As for the T.V; if you are into movies- new movies, you should subscribe to Showtime for example. There are a few TV bundles available aside from ARABSAT/ NILESAT/BLUEBIRD, the free ones.
Massage is also available but it is unfortunately not very common, I would love to find one for myself. I honestly do not know about what is offered for ladies but for men there isn't a good option.
Good luck
Saudi Arabia: education:
Hi Maria,
There's a lot to know about Saudi and especially Taif.
In short, if you come from a somehow-conservative life, you will be ok here in Saudi. However, some of your freedom as a Lady will be lost as of driving for example, even though the school will for sure provide transportation along with accommodations.
In general, Taif's population is not very large but it's however loaded with traffic. The city is not a big one and, only sometimes, do we have to go to Jeddah for example to shop for somethings- that's not to say that we, locals, can work out our needs here.
We have different malls and grocery stores.
Weather here in Taif is the nicest in Summer, people from all over the GCC come to enjoy it, so you wouldn't worry that much about the heat and humidity.
I hope this helps though it isn't that organized.

Saudi Arabia: American mom moving to Khamis needs questions answered:
WOW!
I just came across your post. Apparently, you haven't got any responses, yet?! What a shame!
I would like to give you the answers I know of.
1. Housekeeping is around S.R 2000 ( two thousand Saudi Riyals) That's including cooking and babysitting UNLESS however it isn't legal.
2. I'm almost sure there is one Starbucks there and toy stores.
3. The closest beach going north-west is about 300 KM in Jeddah. There's also a city called Qunfutha which might be closer to Khamis.
4. Jewelry is OK as far as I know, you won't be caught by the police for that! Not even for anything close to that.
Generally, women here tend to not show off when they go out in public but they do put on the best of what they have when they throw parties or get-togethers.
I hope this helps a little. Need you any further information, I'd be glad to help.
Saudi Arabia: Visit to Dhahran....:
Hi,
Adapters were a big issue when I went to US & CANADA.
The adapters here are typical European (GERMAN).
In Dhahran, all outlets are American Standard except that the voltage is either 110 or 220 where in US it's 115.
However, I would check the voltage of any gadget I'd have to bring along, it usually tells you the current range. Devices here in Saudi can take all the way from 110~ - 250.
I didn't have any problem with using my Saudi devices in US except for the ADAPTERS/PLUGS
Cheers
Saudi Arabia: working in riyadh:
John,
I guess $2600 is the base salary aside from housing and transportation allowances. Depending on the company, there's a leisure allowance, too and round-trip tickets for you & immediate family.
In Saudi, we don't ride busses or trains, the bus system is horrible while cheap. Taxis in Riyadh (in Saudi) don't enforce meters but you talk to the driver about the price, it usually ranges between S.R 10-25 ($3~7) depending on the distance and from the airport, there is a different fare.
Gas has two qualities here, (95 red and 91 green). The red is for S.R (0.65)=($0.20) and the green is S.R (0.45)=($0.12).
For me as a local, I would so get a job if the base salary is at least ($2600), at least to live a good life.
I hope this is helpful information
Good luck
Saudi Arabia: Moving to Riyadh in January:
Hi there Sue79,
In Riyadh, there are many smart streets, meaning they're equipped with Wi-Fi by STC (Saudi Telecommunication Company). If you subscribe to DSL service at home, you can use your user name and password provided by the company for your home DSL in the Wi-Fi. MANY STREETS there are enabled.
Also, a lot of places provide wireless networks, it won't be hard for you to find. :) Cell phone companies also offer 3Gs plans for iPhones and BBs.
As for the pictures, if you are able to transfer them into a flash memory and put it into your suite case, that would solve the problem. The only thing the border checks is the reality of your phone and not the content as far as I know. But try to hide it somehow :)
Good luck
