Re: Peregrino's suggestion of Charles Schwab Brokerage and Checking accounts -- Minimum to open a brokerage account is $1000, but no minimum and no monthly fees for checking account, and they do still have unlimited rebate of worldwide ATM fees. Just confirmed all of this via their website.

Costa Rica: Concerned about CAJA 13% premium:
To echo Sherman's question, please clarify: Did the premium increase TO 17% or did it increase BY 17%??
Ecuador: utterly disgusted:
If you had even a passing knowledge of the Obamacare debacle, you would know that this is not about destroying anyone's "legacy." It is about standing up for the fact that Americans DON'T WANT this shoved down their throats. The threats about veterans benefits, social security, etc., are all just fear-mongering. And by the way, there is plenty of money coming in for payments on the debt as well.

Ecuador: socialism?:
Well said, DesertRat! Remoore is full of himself and all too quick to assume he knows the hearts and minds of others. Keep up the good work, and I will look forward to meeting you when we get to Ecuador. In fact, I'll make a point of coming wherever you are and buying you a meal and a drink! God bless,
Jim
Ecuador: THE SHUTDOWN:
National Review's Charles C.W. Cooke: "There have been 17 shutdowns before this one, and a host of debt-ceiling fights to boot. Some of these happened during periods of divided government; others happened during periods of unified government. All told, they are a bipartisan game, although it seems that Democrats prefer to shut down things more than Republicans do. Fifteen of America's previous funding gaps occurred when Democrats controlled the House, and five of them came to pass while Democrats ran every single branch of government."

Ecuador: Do you recommend moving to Eucador?:
So, are you saying that unburned diesel fuel lying all over the ground is better than diesel smoke fouling the air?? The bottom line is that where that occurs (whichever it is), everything smells of diesel. Having been in Manila in the past, I can tell you that every time I smell diesel smoke (or unspent fuel on the ground), Manila comes to mind. I'm really hoping Cuenca isn't like that!!

Ecuador: Moving:
No harm, no foul, @Stokes! Some folks on here are just a little over-impressed with themselves!
