Hi- I might not be the best source of info for you since I do not have kids, however I just moved here from the US and have several American colleagues who are recent arrivals here (NSW) also . All of them have chosen private schools for their kids. Most of my professional/managerial Australian colleagues have done the same. I asked one of them about this preference, and he said the problem with state schools is they are very inconsistent in quality, so it's too close to roulette for his taste.
