Advice for New Expats

Always Always gather information and do your homework. Align yourself with a local attorney who can guide you...Rent first and then purchase or develop. Remember Realtors in Eucador do not need a license. Don't be in a hurry!

Ecuador: Container/TAME cargo:

We are moving a 20' container from Ca. The process is difficult. Learning curve. What are your plans as far as customs etc. Just curious so I can make a suggestion. I have several quotes and one company out of New York is our top choice. email me at janet2u8@yahoo.com Jan, Manta Ecuador.

Ecuador: Clinic for street animals:

Aniamals are the best. Arriving on th 13th of January. If I may add my name to the volunteer program for street dog,. Count me in. It would be a way to give back and possibly start a rescue location. We would have to get the local vets on board. Manta Resident Jan

Ecuador: Hotel in Quito:

My dog and I will need a hotel for one night in Quito. I do not want a low end hotel. Can anyone suggest one that would be good for a goods nights rest and a safe place to walk the dog. I will have a driver pick me up next day and drive to Manta...Our new condo awaiting our arrival. Yahoooooo. Jan

Ecuador: legal paperwork:

Our paperwork arrived back today from the consultate in DC. Off to the attorney in Manta. Hope all goes quickly. Our condo is waiting. I have enjoyed this forum. Lots of great tips. Any tips on international moving companies. We will use a 20' container. Long Beach Ca, port of exit. I have four quotes and the price is now down to around $5500 with all the bells and padded extras.

Ecuador: Bedding:

My personal experience is the following. I spent two solid weeks in Manta and I did not find quality bedding or sheets. I am used to luxury sheets and bedding. 600 hundred ct. sheets and high density mattress pads.Towels are also something I would bring from the US. We are packing now as our rent starts in Feb.2011. We will be residents of Manta. Jan

Ecuador: Bringing my dog to Ecuador:

Please so kind as to give me the details of bringing your dog to ecuador. We leave on or about the middle of January. I have all the regulation shots etc. Will get a Vet's certificate,, etc. Please advise, you checked your dog through the baggage and then what happened when you arrived? Did the customs check the dogs paperwork. What Airlines did you fly and where did you fly into. Jan, Dexter Dog. We will live in Manta.

Ecuador: Internet & Phone Service in Manta:

I was thrilled to see a detailed response explaining some of the in's and outs of hooking up the internet service and celll phone services. I am also shipping our dog. Does anyone have a tip regarding the airline that caters to animals? Leaving from LAX to Manta. Ed and I are moving into Brias Del Mar in January. We will need internet and cell phone service. We need all the tips we can get from our X-pat friends. I was in Manta when the government had a hiccup. I wasn't the least bit concerned. I knew we were in good hands, safe and sound. Ecuador: Psychiatric care in Salinas:

My limited experience is that when I presented my information for Cymbalta at the Pharmacy it was not available. I think you need to sure you contact a hospital for secure and private information for such clinical drugs. We found the physiicans to be very knowledable about drugs. They would write prescriptions if they see you as a patient.
