Costa Rica: Need Recommendation For Dental Implants:
I live in Las Cruces, NM and have been looking for an inexpensive venue for a dental implant in the Western Hemisphere since I don't feel like traveling to Vietnam where I explored the area two years ago. Can anyone provide a recommendation of a good practice in San Jose?
Vietnam: Veneers:
That's good to hear. I've been exploring a venue to go to for some dental work to be performed. I'm familiar with Can Tho and HCMC but haven't been back since 2012. Since I live in Las Cruces, NM I opted to select San Jose, Costa Rica instead.

Vietnam is an excellent place to retire. Many Aussies can live comfortably on the retirement social security there.
I would suggest one of my favorite spots that I found a few years ago and return at least twice a year: Cuenca, Ecuador.
Although Ecuador is situated on the equator, life in the High Andes (6,000 ft.+) is always a wonderful experience given the highs are in the low to mid 70's and lows in the high 50's 365 days per year.
The economy is stable. Prices are VERY affordable and the currency used is the American dollar. The government is democratic and stable (no revolutions) and many expats live there.
It's only a 4-hour flight to either Miami or Houston and communication access (internet, telephone, Wi-Fi, etc.) is excellent.
Having experienced a motorcycle accident requiring medical attention, I found the physicians and quality care at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cuenca, for example, excellent.
Hope this broadens your search. Use the internet to gather more info on Cuenca, Quito, Guayaquil and other major cities in Ecuador. Good luck...

The best and easiest way to meet locals is to just mingle. I traveled there solo 2 years ago to make peace with those I fought 40+ years prior and I had no problem finding people to be with including women. Just be honest and friendly and be careful. I assure you that you'll make it's of friends within a few weeks. Go to a university town or city and explore taking a course in a subject you like and can communicate, such as English. I enrolled in a course in computer science at the University of Can Tho because I figured one would need to know English if communicating online or working with computers. And guess what? I was right and I made lots of friends of both sexes, spent time with them at their homes, met their folks and extended family and these friends introduced me to other friends, too. So just relax and have a good time. Vietnam, I quickly discovered is a very beautiful country and I felt, at last, at peace with my soul. Good luck...Trekker Dave
Vietnam: Can Tho ?:
I was stationed in Can Tho (70-71) and used to go to a nice place near the University in an alley whose name I've forgotten. I went back there 42 years later in 2012 and believe it or not it's still there. Wonderful place.
Czech Republic: Holiday Events & Expat Gatherings in Czech Republic:
I'm taking my sweetheart to Prague (my 3rd time her 1st) for Christmas this year. We'll attend a performance of Mozart's Don Giovanni at the National Marionette Theatre; attend Midnight Mass on the night of the 24th on Tyn Street on the Square; mail our Christmas cards to friends throughout our stay (12/23 - 12/27) and fall in love with the season there. Can hardly wait to arrive...
Vietnam: orthodontist:
Holy cow! That's the same operation (dental surgery) that I have scheduled on the 19th of June. A 3-denture tooth implant in my upper left jaw. 3 million VN Dong is equal to US$168.
Now that I'm somewhat composed and off the ceiling, my next question is do you have a referral recommendation that I can explore to have the procedure done over there?
Vietnam: Taxi:
I've never paid more than 30,000 VND. When they tell you it costs 100,000 tell them you can find another for 30,000. They quickly change their tune.

I'm 64 and returned for the first time in 43 years--I loved it! I went back to Can Tho on the Mekong and had a ball, had dinner with a former VC and spent a week out at Vung Tau. I caught a container ship in Savanah which took me to Algeciras, Spain and took a train through Spain, France, Germany, spent 4 days in Prague near the John Lennon Wall, another 4 in Kiev, took a train to Moscow and spent 3 days there and then hopped aboard the Trans-Siberian to Irkutsk which took 6 days where I stayed with a Russian at his dacha on Lake Baikal. A month later, after taking a train via Xi'An to Nanning I reached Hanoi on the 6th of Septemer and spent a eek there recooperating from my ordealon gthe Iron Rooster through Mainland China. I took a train down the China Beach coas through Tet, DaNang, Nha Trang, the Russian resort of Mui Nei, then over to Saigon, whoops, I mean HCMC. Spent 3 weeks at the Hotel Saigon hostel and another 2 weeks in Can Tho where I burned insence for those who never came home to grow old and have a family. Eventually I crossed the South china Sea,took a train up from Singapore to Bangkok to Vientiane to Hanoi then down to HCMC to catch a freighter out of Vung Tau to Long Beach then to Seattle where i took a train back across the plains to
Chicago and home to Columbus in over 3 months without catching scurvy, dysentary or being robbed. Hope to write a ook about my trek from the dispatches I wrote back to a copy editor with the Plain Dealer who I am friends with. The only bike I rode, other than a bicycle I rented in Hanoi was a 200 cc Kawaski motorbike that I* rented to get me to Vung Tau to catch my ship back to the States.--Trekker Dave
