United Arab Emirates: Help - I have been ripped off and need advice:
Hi,
I have fallen into a situation which enabled an African woman, living in Abu Dhabi, to take a lot of money from me.
Can anyone suggest how I can take legal action against her, without incuring a huge lawyer cost?
Thanks
Pete
Global Expat Forum: Moving _from_ 3rd world country:
interesting concept Alex. While most of us are trying to move away from 1st world countries because they are too expensive, those in 3rd world countries want to move to 1st world countries. i admire and feel sorry for how 3rd world countries live, but i believe it is what 1st world countries need to go back to. they have lost the plot and destroy the planet. but that is another story. you are one of the lucky ones who can afford to escape.
I am from australia where it absolutely beautiful, but too expensive. you spend your life paying off a mortgage and dont enjoy your life until your old and retired.
i am looking at Thailand, malaysia, philipinnes, panama, ecuador, fiji. the major considerations are safety, security, cost of living, climate and visas. you may find it difficult to get visas in the 1st world countries like oz and other countries like malaysia and thailand you need a min $20k in their local banks to get a visa. thats why places like ecuador, panama, kenya appeal to me.
i know its 3rd world, but kenya (Mt Kenya) has the best climate in the world. 25-28 every day 10-15 at night and a wet and dry season with no humidity. land prices are cheap. local town has Brittish military base so plenty of western cafes and resturants and bars and visas simple. issue here is local crime (poverty lends to stealing) and gobt corruption (where isnt there govt corruption).
good luck with your journey

Panama: Is Panama the place to live:
hi,
I was on this forum over a year ago searching where to live. I hope to come to Panama in April, if i can find enough good info on the internet. I see the 2 main areas for expats are Altos del Maria and Bouquete (hope i spelt it right). Where can i find a nice home, fantastic mountain/valley views, warm weather all year, little humidity, no need for bars on windows and close to western style supermarkets, cafes and within 30 mins to major towns and beaches, all for under $150k. am I dreaming? should i go to Ecuador lol.

India: Living in Kerala:
Hi,
I am an Aussie looking for somewhere I can live that is safe, surrounded by mountains and valleys of rainforest and wildlife and friendly people, where I can live cheaply, where it is warm to hot all year round, minimal humidity, clean air and still get a good latte and muffin (lol).
I would love to hear from any westerners who have moved to Kerala and who wish to share their experience.
PLEASE do not email me if you are simply using me for business!!!!

Global Expat Forum: Which Country to Choose???:
Hi all,
I'm an aussie on the same journey as many of you. I have been researching the internet for about 18 months now and searching my self as well to know what I am looking for. Personally, I am after a home for under $100k where I can sit on my balcony looking over mountains and valleys of rainforest, where it is warm to hot during the day all year, cool at night, with no or little himidity and close enough drive to western style cafes and restuarants and where i do not need to live with bars on windows. Honestly, i dont want much lol.
My research has narrowed it down to Malaysia, Thailand, Philipines, Africa, Panama, Costa Ricca, Kerala (india) Brazil and Equador. However the safety factor rules out Africa, which is a shame coz Kenya has the best climate and wildlife in the world. It seems Panama has the best retiree package and visa, although i think Equador is easy for resident visas as well.
My intiuition tells me to go to Panama, while the cheapest seems to be Equador. Not an easy decision.
I agree with some of teh things said in this forum and I have been travelling to some countries and spending 1-3 months there to see what the culture is really like. you dont know till you land on the ground and spend time talking to locals and expats.
would love to hear more about peoples experiences, and NOT those trying to make a $$$$ out our journeys
