Hungary: Possibly moving to Budapest:
Hi,
I would like some help so that I can plan to move to Budapest and find work there. I am a 38yr old American and my ancestors came from Hungary. I feel a deep connection to the country and would like to live and work there so that I may learn the Hungarian language and possibly become a citizen in the future.
My background is in computer repair and networking but I do not have a degree, I chose to work and gain experience instead.
I visited Budapest in June for 3 weeks and I love the city as you can basically walk or take the tram and metro wherever you need to go. I do not drive as I was in a bad car accident a few years ago.
I did receive my TEFL certification and I am currently working on the Teaching Business English certificate.
I understand most of my electronics will not work because of the different voltage and TV format. I am single so I would only need a small 1 bedroom apartment. I am not sure exactly what I should do, should I apply for residency and work permits first? I plan to put in my CV/resumes with the teaching institutes in Budapest, but since I have no teaching experience yet I doubt they will accept it. I still do not know exactly what is required before I move there.
I would like any information you can provide me with concerning the basic things you will need, e.g. electricity, trash service, laundry, cable tv, internet access, water, cell phone service.
I understand the exchange rate and the lower cost of living. But I do not know what the average pay for an English teacher should be. I would like to live comfortably but also have enough money for travel and to buy new furniture, clothes, electronics, etc.
