Australia: Desperately seeking D:
I am so disheartened. I have over 25 years in the health care field in New York, USA...unlicensed. Yet that counts for nothing as far as a job is concerned in Oz. My age is against me-58. I can no longer bear children, another strike. I do not have a bachelors degree nor $500,000 for a retirement investment visa....double strike. So what are my options to immigrate to Oz? I speak and write excellent English, I could drive transport vehicles and/or work at many other types of employment. Defacto is not an option as I would not ask anyone I know in Oz to do that for the sake of immigration. Does anyone have any ideas that may lead me in the right direction?
My eye was on NSW Warrawong area. Or further North in QL.
Thank you for any and all ideas and for taking the time to reply.

Australia: need advice-short term decision):
I have been looking into things myself and I can tell you it doesn't look good. You cannot get work, go to school, get medical, etc in Australia on a tourist visa. You are allowed varying lengths of stays before being required to leave if just for a few days. Australia is looking for people with degrees in education and in certain fields and they want people 45 and younger. Your only hope is to have a relationship for 12 months with no more than 3 month separation total, have the relationship well documented with dated photos, shared bills, shared bank accounts, rent, etc and have your partner along with you put in for a defacto partner visa and HOPE for the best. Check out web sites that deal with immigration. Just make sure they are registered if you should decide to deal with them. Australia is extremely expensive so think about how quickly your welcome might wear out if you are not helping your friend support you. A lot would depend on how close the 2 of you are in that respect and full knowledge of what you can and can't do in Australia as a visitor/ tourist.
Australia: over 50 advice for defacto spouse:
It seems anyone aged over 45 is a "no want" person. I myself am 58. But I'm smart and able to work. But there again I do not have a Bachelors degree despite specializing in the health care field for 25 plus years. I'd like to get my hands on a job driving a bus. I have worked as a manager for hotels and resorts as well.
However, I have gotten to know a gent in Oz for the past 3 plus years....but there again, not physically.
So it appears the only way I could move to Oz is to have $500,000 {Aus} plus in my pocket to invest on the retirement visa. Guess what? I don't have half of a million dollars.
The strictures of immigration's are really stiff in Oz. Some I can understand, others I do not.
You have to physically be with your girlfriend for a year with no more than 3 months apart and I wouldn't advise even that much. You must show proof such as bills with both names, bank accounts, dated pictures, have people who can vouch for your relationship, dated pictures, and when apart {for up to 3 months} ...letters and the like. Anything that shows and proves you actually live together. Now I must admit I do not know if you are required to marry after a certain period of time.
I found all this out from searching myself when it seemed likely that my "friend" and I would be together.
Now, what you may be able to do is visit her for lengthy stays of up to 6 months...leave because its the law} for a bit then come back for another 6 months. In that time collect all the proof you can...legal proof. Then file for defacto status and hope it works. That's all I can advise.
Global Expat Forum: Learning Chinese online:
Most of the ones I know do NOT teach reading and writing of a language which is most necessary to really ensure that you are chosen in the employment field of your choice.
It would really be great if you could find a native Chinese who would be willing to tutor you on all three
ways of communicating in Chinese.
Good Luck
