About 2BSirius

I am a pretty cool down-to-earth individual. That loves to travel, meet new people, and love spending time with my family. I have a now-or-never approach to life, and love to wake up with "No Regrets" in life. I am a US Born Citizen, and have been traveling all over the world. I have strong beliefs and a internal drive that is out of this world. I believe that one person can have a great impact on their surroundings, and I am unafraid to be the lone person standing up for what I believe it. I believe in the famous quote by Zig Ziggler; "You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want." I get along with just about anyone, and have a free-spirited personality...but can pick up negative vibes a mile away. I joined the Expat Community to network with other Expat's that have similiar taste, values, and the need for socializing sometimes. I chose the Bahamas for my relocation as many say, "its an extension of Florida", with the authentic Carribbean feel. I am originally from the Midwest and am a true Northerner...however I DISLIKE cold weather. So to the South I went. I am in the process of making several life changing moves in 2011 and can not wait to start my life anew with my Fianee..the Bahamas will be a temporary move for us until we purchase property and can stay there a lot longer. If you have any questions of me...feel free to ask, and If I find out any interesting information that I feel will be helpful to the group. I am willing to share.

Advice for New Expats

Research, research, research. Also, it will help if you can locate a point of contact in the region or area that you would like to move to. If having trouble such as we did...join an Expat group, and network there. Also, if you have your mind set on something, sometimes you just have to step out on faith and hard work, as naysayers will try to deter you from living your dreams! Live your life for YOU!

I would love to live in...

Bahamas: Info on the Bahamas:

Hello Black Belt, and Welcome to the Bahamas Expat Group. I am in the process right now of being a Expat to the Bahamas. I have been here a week now, and without a good network of friends and connects that can help you out, and offer advice...things get very frustrating and dim; to say the least! I am an American, and my Fiancee is a German Citizen, so the length of time that we are able to stay of course our different. When we approached Immigration we decided to do what most suggested which was to just to say we were going to stay 3 weeks. (Plus I will be commuting back-and-forth) to America anyway on Business. We will have to go to the Ministry of Immigration to get his passport or stay extended. I heard that the best thing to say to get an extension is to say (which is the truth...that you are interested in purchasing some real estate and would like an extension). When we arrived on the island. We picked up the classified section of various newspaper to get our search of apartments, condos etc. to rent. I would stay away from Realtors, as most don't like to deal with rentals, and their clients are pushed to do long term rentals due to the commissions of the agents. If you do decide to go with an agent...I have a few suggestions that I can post a little later as I don't have the numbers on me. As far as groceries...they are OUT RAGEOUSLY EXSPENSIVE, compared to the US. I heard that they are cheaper grocery stores than City Market which you will pay $7 for a small thing of Ben & Jerry's ice cream, and almost $8.00 for Cheese. However, just yesterday...we were able to locate an apartment that we are able to rent month-to-month or pay weekly. Its really nothing I would rent back in the States...but it is in a safe neighborhood, low cost to get into this apartment, and the flexible lease terms. Also, FYI when you do locate a place. Most expect 3 months rent up front. First, last, and security deposit. So be prepared for upwards of $3,000.00 just to get into a place, and they ask for cash. So have a plan in that regards as well. I hope this helps!

Bahamas: Relocationg to Nassau Soon:

Hello Everyone, I am so excited to have finally found a Group for Expats in the Bahamas. I just wish I would have found this sooner. Nevertheless, me and my fiancee are planning to relocate to Nassau in the beginning of 2011, and I am a US Citizen (Florida)and he is a German Citizen. We plan to Marry at Sandles. I have tons of questions in regards to First: The port of Enrty with Immigration! I've read that US citizens can stay 8 months and German Citizens 3 months. But Im reading that they will most likely not allow you to stay that long. Whats the best things to say so that we can get a longer stay? Should we get an apartment first, and pay the rent for that time frame, or should we just stay in a Hotel for a few weeks, and then try to locate a place. I just dont want to get there and have all these surprises. Any feedback will be appreciated
