Germany: Semi-Retired in Germany?:

Hallo, we took a one year retirement in Augsburg, Germany ( had friends there and we familiar with the area). We had no problems getting resident status for that time. We needed to show proof of insurance, income ( in our case Social security, some savings) a permanent address and bank account. All things we needed for our stay anyway. We are both citizens of America. Our stay was wonderful and are planing on a return trip soon.

Germany: Why not to move to Germany.:

I don't agree with you for the most part. Here's why...on our second day living in our apt one of our neighbors came over to invite us to his house for a beer, while there the wife ( who never met me before) had an extra ticket to the opera and asked me to join her and two other friends, and she brought the champagne ! These neighbors have. Been nothing but good to us, total strangers..even let my husband borrow their bike for the duration of our stay ( 2 years) total strangers come up to us in the grocery store and offer help, when they hear us talking about something we don't know. However, I also have noticed ( on the bus partically ) people can be rude...it's just who they are in that situation and knowing it ,(and excepting the fact that you can't change it) helps a bit to " brush " it off.

I read that there is no such thing in Germany. The gov't charges you a tax regardless if you have a TV or not. True?
