Armenia: QSI International School:
Well, I have no direct experience with QSI Yerevan, but know that QSI schools are basically for-profit schools, paying [and in the case I know, supervising] their teachers poorly, and tightly controlled by a husband wife team in Ljubljana. The school I know had a number of evangelical Christians teaching and allowed them liberties that would not be acceptable in more independent institutions. I see that your options are limited in Yerevan... I would suggest you compare test scores but QSI doesn't offer IGCSE so can't compare with CIS. I wonder if CIS is seeking international accreditation (presumably from CIS = Council of International Schools in UK) . That would mean they are serious about providing quality education. On the plus side, Armenia is beautiful and you can readily travel to Georgia which is also beautiful and more varied. Good luck!
Azerbaijan: How friendly are Azerbaijis to foreigner?:
In general, reasonably friendly. But no, there are not lots of Africans and, sorry to say, my sense is that they have a hard time here.
Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan:
It seems a very closed place… without the support of someone important it could be impossible in the long run.
Azerbaijan: Any gyms w Basketball court?!:
Not that we know of but there are a lot of basketball leagues
Azerbaijan: New job in Baku:
Shopping takes some effort. There are smalll neighborhood markets but getting to supermarkets could well require a bus or taxi ride. Prices are somewhat higher than in other countries, and choices more limited--bring extras of your favorite things and come with limited expectations. Fruits and veg in season are good and not expensive but not huge choice. Buses are frequent and cheap. There will probably be plenty of socialising through your school or expat groups--there are certainly plenty of bars! See internations.com. Security is good--I am a woman and feel very safe on my own. Good luck!
Azerbaijan: RE: Teaching Opportunities:
Hello. There are two international schools (English speaking) in Baku and many privately-run schools for people wanting to learn or improve their English. I am new here so don't know if any of the latter are able to provide the necessary work documentation, but the former certainly are. They are TISA and BIS.
