I used to live in Bahia de Caraquez for 6 months and then moved to Manta for the last 8 months before moving back to California. Ecuador was NOT for me. Lots of losers from the USA; the people that I was trying to get away from.

Advice for New Expats

DUE DILLIGENCE, gather as much information you can get from various resources and be ready to STILL be unprepared as laws are always changing. VISIT THE COUNTRY you want to live in prior to moving. Just common sense. LEARN THE LANGUAGE!!! Do yourself a favor and broaden your friends to extend to the locals NOT just the expats.

Hi, I just PM'd you with a response to your question. If you are calling Skype to Skype video then no number will show, but if you are calling with out the video, your number will appear as your TX number or whatever state or country you got the number from. I, too am frustrated at the ramblings that continually go on here which is why I usually PM a person when I have direct knowledge to answer a question. Unfortunately, there will always be those people who have nothing better to do than hear themselves talk on forums like these and think we are really interested in what they have to say while being completely off-topic.

Have those of you who are having problems with PM's sent messages directly to the administrator? As there have been many problems when they were trying out a new format, I did just that, sent several to Betsy who responded right back to me and corrected the problems after a few tries. If you contact her directly I would hope your PM issue should clear up as I believe they were asking anybody who had these problems to contact them directly before. As far as censorship goes.........I have no idea on that one.
