Some Forum Posts:

Global Expat Forum: American Expats and Trumpcare:

The original post has nothing to with applicability of Obamacare (ACA) to expats. It was speculating about Trump's possible changes to health care after he repeals Obamacare. Since Obamacare has not been repealed/replaced, this is all moot.

Global Expat Forum: Hot Water:

Here in Cyprus, all the houses have solar panels and a hot water tank on the roof. The tanks are fitted with electric immersion heaters for use on cold, cloudy winter days. But there is enough sunshine here that you can get by without using the immersion heater very often.

Global Expat Forum: Golden Visa for the EU:

Not correct OldPro. A visa is not necessary to get a residency permit. EU nationals can obtain residency permits in another EU country and these are a single application, not requiring renewal (at least in Cyprus).

Global Expat Forum: NOT an EX-Pat:

How does your bank know you are not in the US? Time to change your bank. I live overseas and have no problems with my bank accounts in the US. HSBC even has my overseas address as my mailing address. I do all my banking online. I've lived overseas since 2004 and had no problems.

Cyprus: Seeking little coves:

The Eastern Cyprus area is full of these little coves. All along the coastline from Ayia Napa to Kapparis. Sirena Bay is a very nice cove that doesn't get a lot of traffic and they are currently cleaning up the cove/beach and adding a walkway along the water.

Cyprus: Dust - when and how bad:

Generally the dust is not so bad that health warnings are issued. Most of the dust storms occur during the winter and are followed by rain to clear the air. However, last year we did have an incredible dust storm in August that lasted 3-4 days and the government did issues health warnings. This storm was unusual. I closed up the house because the dust was bad and had to put on the AC. The dust tends to be larger particles (>PM10), which I understand to be not as detrimental as the finer particles.

Cyprus: Life in Cyprus:

I cannot imagine why someone would ask these questions. Are you a wealthy individual with children that you expect to break the law? Anyway, I will answer a bit. Cypriots are not living in poverty, many are quite wealthy. I cannot say what the attitude is towards the wealthy as I am not wealthy but I expect that if you don't flaunt your wealth, you will be treated the same as anyone else. I expect this goes for any country. There is some theft in Cyprus; this has increased in the past few years as more Eastern Europeans have come to the country. As anywhere, it is wise to live securely (lock your house when you go out, don't leave valuables in your car when you go to the beach, etc.) People expect lawbreakers to be prosecuted here. That being said, Cypriots are not the most law-abiding when it comes to traffic laws - they use their mobile phones while driving, they park anywhere and everywhere including on the sidewalks, then do not always stop at stop signs or traffic lights. One must drive quite defensively in Cyprus. That being said the traffic is not that bad.

Global Expat Forum: Residency/Medical Requirements:

Cyprus does not, Slovakia and Bulgaria do. I know this from personal experience.

Global Expat Forum: where to live with a Toddler:

Come to Cyprus. English is widely spoken, Cypriots love their children, it is very safe, and not very expensive.

Global Expat Forum: Wants to relocate to Cyprus:

Definitely agree with Pippin. The job market in Cyprus is difficult and the pay is really low (certainly much lower than what you have been getting in the UAE. As Pippin says, jobs would go to a Cypriot over a foreigner unless you want to work in the hospitality industry for really low pay. Sorry to sound negative, but these are the facts.
