Panama: Fighting a Parking Ticket:
When I visited Panama last April I rented a car from Hertz. . I had no issues with the car and turned it back in to Hertz at the airport without incident, final paperwork showing the same as the estimate.
Now, almost four months later, Hertz is charging my credit card $42.80 for alleged "legal fees" associated with a ticket I supposedly received (and have no knowledge of.
I finally got the information Hertz sent to my credit card company. It consists only of a list from the Autoridad De Transito y Transporte Terrestre of tickets for all Hertz Rentals and shows a ticket for incorrect parking for the same license plate on the same day I picked up the rental. Nothing to describe the time the ticket was issued nor even specifically where it was issued. We (two others were with me)didn't pick the car up until almost 11:00 am and made no stops other than for gas between PC and the hotel in Pedasi. No ticket was found on the windshield either.
My credit card company has accepted the list as proof that I received a ticket. Does anyone know if it is possible and how I would go about getting a copy of the actual ticket?
Panama: Hertz Rental Car Shakedown:
When I visited Panama last April I rented a car from Hertz. I actually had reservations with two other companies at the airport but both tried to pull a switch and neither had the car model grade I had reserved (or anything close to it. I finally rented one from Hertz and thought things were fine.
My card company says the charge is valid based on Hertz's documentation. Hertz USA says Hertz Panama is a separate company any refuses to help.
Has anyone else experienced a similar shake down effort?
Panama: A little Help for Upcoming Trip Needed:
I'll be visiting Panama for a few days and have spent some time searching this forum for information. I found quite a bit, but am looking for some updated information. This is my second trip (non-cruise) trip to Panama so I am a little familiar with how things work (or at least how they did five years ago). I've got a few questions:
I've confirmed that my credit card company provides coverage for damage to the rental car provided I do not take the local CDW. What other insurance is currently required, especially for liability? Last time I went with peace of mind and spent a fortune.
I'm renting a car at Tocumen International Airport just for convenience. Can anybody provide me with good directions or a map (or a link) on the best way to get from the airport to the Bridge of the Americas? Last time we got hecka lost and only found it because some kind ex pat got in his car and lead us to the right corridor on ramp, only to get hecka lost again in Casco Viejo.
I have PCMetro cell service in the states and they have a very cheap international calling plan to Panama. Does anybody have any first had experience with this provider (or their affiliates) in Panama?
Lastly, on a priot trip I rented a GPS unit that was basically no better than a paper weight due to the lack of signal and lack of road signs and addreses. Has the GPS ability gotten any better in the last five years?
Thanks in advance for any input.
Panama: Importing Humain Remains:
My wife dreamed of retiring in Panama but unfortunately passed away before we could realize that dream, Can anyone tell me what is needed to bring her ashes into Panama and possibly to spread them offshore?
Thanks
Panama: New member intro and question:
alaskamike: thank you for stating your feelings re 806mark. He has apparently been much help to others in the past, but I too find him extremely rude and unnecessarily acting like he is king of the forum. I underrstand he's an ex-cop which probably accounts for a lot of his attitude. We not too long ago had to suffer through a pending break-up with his wife on the forum - really??? You'll learn to just skip his comments and glean info from the other participants. We are planning our move in a year and a half, and believe me it will take us that long to get everything in order, so I don't think you are at all out of line in getting a jump-start. Best of luck.
Panama: Where in Panama:
thank you Lapalula - Mark's "facts" are too often just opinions and fact only if you are of his same ilk. And if one questions his word, you will be belittled and treated rudely. Mark has been complimented so many times on his past assistance, he no longer helps as much as espouses Panama According to Lord God King Mark's personal likes and dislikes. I am really tired of hearing everhone needs to buy Mark rum and cokes - is there nothing to do in El Valle except drink and play poker? Aren't personal emails for that kind of stuff. I am so through with this site.
Panama: Pedase's Surfer Guys:
eldukedeplas: M;y husband and I spent time two years ago and covered all the main stops in Panama - we purchased at Costa Pedasi on the Azuera Peninsula because we found it to be everything K Peddicord claimed in her article. We plan to relocate there in 2.5 years and can hardly wait. The people are wonderful, the weather great, the geography varied, and very close to so many things without being right in the middle of it all. It is the Pacific so the water isn't carribbean clear, but good waves/fishing/boats & whales passing etc etc. Definately worth a visit if you're considering.
Panama: living on social security alone:
Bluewind: don't take it personally. Mark does tend to think of the forum as his, but at least he is an equal opportunity disrespect-er. I try to skim past all his disrespectful comments and glean what I can from the forum. In due time your answers will come.
Panama: IRS Reporting:
Can any US expats that have purchased property through a corporation tell me what IRS forms need to be completed?
Panama: Real costs in Panama:
Jsmyth: I can't help you much with costs & everything is going up in US & the world, but thot you mike like to look into the Azueroo Peninsula which is where we purchased property. Gated community right on the beach in a lovely small town with larger towns 1/2 hour and 1 hour away. PC approx 5 hours drive or inexpensive flights 3x week. We're not there yet, but drawing up our house plans and getting anxious!!
