Ecuador Welcome Forum: duplicate emails:

Hi all, Is anyone else getting two emails for each posting to this site? It started happening about a week ago or so. Thanks!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Set up residency in state with no income tax before I leave?:

My wife and I have used US Global mail for 5 years now. You can have your mail scanned so it can be downloaded or you can have it mailed to somewhere in the states (Fedex is an option so you could probably have it shipped to the FED-EX office in Cuenca or other Ecuadorian city that has Fed-ex but it would be close to $60-$75). Your address would be Houston, TX so not sure how that would affect tax status.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Tourist Visa:

Funny you should ask. The Cuenca High Life just had an article about it today. https://www.cuencahighlife.com/new-immigration-law-expands-rights-foreigners-ecuadorians-living-abroad-extends-visitors-stay-90-180-days/ Of course you also need to do some research before taking a leap but this is a good summary.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Smart Phone to use in Ecuador and Chile:

I have an iPhone that I've used in many places around the world and have never had any problems. I bought a new unlocked iPhone 6 from the Apple store with t-mobile sim and just buy a sim from the country I'm visiting. Living in Ecuador now and have used the phone in South Africa, Spain, Namibia

Ecuador Welcome Forum: VoIP:

It's a bit more expensive but I've used Vonage for about 8 years. You can look up on the internet to see what plans they have. You get a VOIP modem that connects to the wireless router. You get e-mail when messages are left and you can set it up to forward to another phone if the device is not attached. We forward to the Claro mobile number when in Ecuador and the Verizon cell when we are in the US.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: 120 Volt US clothes dryers:

Does anyone on this site know if 240 volt dryers can be used in Cuenca? I've done some research online and it appears that it's not possible. The washer drier combo machine in the apartment I'm in is 120V so I'm guessing that is what I'm stuck with. I want to bring a stackable washer dry set from the states. Has anyone done that? Washing machines are 120 Volt but all the dryers I'm finding are 240. Thanks

Ecuador Welcome Forum: golf?:

There is a 9 hole course 15 minutes from Cuenca Centro. I went there with my landlord last week and it is a very nice course but private. And it's expensive. Not sure of the initial membership fee but think it's about $5,000. On top of that it's $120 per month. I've heard there is a special deal. for expats where there is only a monthly fee and no membership fee. Only good for one or two years.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Banking, Currencies and ATMs:

Hey Mark, I've been using a CapitolOne 360 debit card for 6 years in South Africa, Spain, US, Ecuador, Bali, Nicaragua, etc. and haven't had any problems and there are no international withdrawal fees. Daily limit for cash withdrawals is $1,000

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Checking out Ecuador:

Cutters is a brand of mosquito repellent that is quite popular in the US.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Taxing Imported Goods:

This is true except there are rules and limits. Container has to be shipped within 180 days from issue of cedula and, for a couple, only 3 TV's can be shipped in the container; 2 for the primary person plus 1 for a dependent.
