Costa Rica: Moving for a year:
Well I will give this a try, and be kind folks this is my maiden voyage here. We (my bride and I) stay in CR for 6 months a year Dec 1 to June 1 and live near the Pacific Ocean (I can walk there no problem). I will take a stab at our expenses, so here I go:
Rent $650 includes, internet, water and garbage, I pay electricity. The place is very nice.
Electricity $100
Groceries $300 a month, but I have learned how to buy Veggies and Fruit was below Super Mercado prices.
Beer, since we live near the beach its hot so we drink about 2 cases of Pilsen a week at $28 per case, so about 50 bucks a week or $200 a month.
Eating out: we go out 2-3 times a week, breakfast and lunches mainly so about $250 a month.
Transportation: we our a car here, but in prior years I would imagine we spent no more than $50 per month
Misc Stuff: which includes perhaps treating friends to a meal, etc, etc $200 per month
Lastly, Im sure I have missed something, but I say we live very comfortably on $1700-$2000 per month.....
However, we maintain a home (no mortgage) in the US and health insurance. so add another $1500 a month there.
Hope those numbers help
Costa Rica: Car for 3 months:
Hi..my bride and I are going to spend 3 months in CR on 01/16. Thought I would buy a car to use, and perhaps leave it at my uncles house in Atenas until the next year, or just sell it. Is that doable or should I just rent long term? I have bought and sold cars for years and typically make money on them. Im not a car salesman, I'm a Real Estate Appraiser :) Thanks!
Panama: Realtors:
Just an observation...It amazes me how many expats become Real Estate professionals in Costa Rica and Panama. I have appraised well over 5,000 houses, and 1.5 million acres of land (US) and still I work hard to analyze market trends and MANY other factors to develop an opinion of value. So quite frankly it scares me to see all the new Real Estate professionals. No offense intended to anyone.
