Nicaragua: Asian feelings:
I like el D,
I am not concerned as to how people refer to me as I am secure with myself and my ideals. Sick of the touchy-feelies who worry about what others think of them, as well as those who pander to them. By the way, I am a single white American female with multiple handicaps, traveling with my service dog. If you think the tongues do not wag over me...
Nicaragua: PERFECT SPOT FOR RETIREMENT:
Please do tell. In Granada this moment...much too hot. Renting car to check out other options..need cooler temps, but would like reliable internet, tv and water. Still fit the bill?
Thanks in advance.
Nicaragua: Flying To USA with a dog:
First hand knowledge is several weeks away. I just left the US but in Honduras for four days, then flew into Granada on the 4th. Paperwork at the animal inspection at the Managua airport states:
1. Vet visit to clinic authorized by IPSA
2. Vaccination card to verify clinical history
3. Vet issues record of health
4. Visit to government office of CETREX for export certificate.
5. Present certificate to airline for verification by IPSA .
6. Present your passport as well.
Mas info at www.cetrex.gob.ni
Good luck!
Nicaragua: Flying To USA with a dog:
I have finished my journey throughout beautiful Nicaragua, flying back to the US through Miami. My hearing service dog always travels at my feet, so I do not know about canines that travel in cargo.
The requirements were straightforward. I visited a vet who is very familiar with the process...World Vets in Granada). The paperwork is called Permiso y Certificado de Exportation de Salud Animal Para Animales, and the branch that provides this is IPSA. The Dr. asked to see my dog's immunization record and the USDA APHIS 7001 form. (I do not think you would require this unless you were merely visiting, rather than having lived in Nica for a period of time). I then paid an exam fee. I was told I would have to have an official government stamp endorsing the certificate. I am sure you could do this on your own, but the closest IPSA office was going to mean a trip to Managua...Ugh...so I opted to use a service that was provided thru the vet for an additional fee,
whereby a driver would go to Managua, get the stamp, and return paperwork to the vet. I do not know if ALL vets are certified for completing the paperwork, so you would have to explore this for yourself. Make sure you make copies of the original. And do not wait until the last minute or it may be much more costly, The certificate is good for 10 days. When I got to the airline desk, they asked for the documentation IMMEDIATELY, (so please do not think you might not be asked for it....I know people that try to squeeze by, and are lucky, but I NEVER assume that I would be one of those people).
Good luck!
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Flying into GYE with dogs:
Dear Ana,
The poster who advised regarding questionable validity in recognition of the 3 yr. rabies vaccine is spot on. I had to get my dog revaccinated and wait 30 days for verifiable immunity to be acknowledged. Many countries do NOT recognize the 3 yr. vaccine.

Honduras: Dog import:
Plan to be traveling to Valle de Angeles by way of Tegucigalpa. I need someone with first hand knowledge regarding the process. I know about the APHIS processing, and the airline part of the process, but need info on the Honduras inspection and forward. I have a service dog but know he will be regarded as a pet. Info on fees, unusual requests and any snafus encountered in the process would be appreciated.
Nicaragua: Availability of taxi/shuttle from tegucigalpa to Granada:
I have been posting regarding relocation to Nica cities at elevation. I have an opportunity to visit, but will be coming from Tegucigalpa area. Any ideas on a private taxi or shuttle that might service this route. Cannot take bus as my service dog will be with me and I was told they don't accommodate service animals.
Nicaragua: Relocation:
I am a retired 65 yo female looking to relocate to a cooler climate than I think I would find around Leon or Granada. In researching I became interested in Matagalpa, Jinotega and Esteli in particular. I need non suicidal hot water, reliable Internet, washer/dryer option and availability for shopping. I love bird watching, orchid farms, and leisure bicycling. Am I headed in the correct direction with my choices?
