Ecuador: Looking for an Architect:

Hi ,We are renovating a historic building in downtown Cuenca. After going through 3 architects we Finally got a great one. If you are looking to do a renovation in historic center be aware of all the problems and regulations that must be followed. He has a great crew and really knows his business . He does not speck english but my man in ecuador that looks over the project works with him and they make a great team. Carlos speaks perfect english and works on a daily bases with estafan . We will be renovating more projects as a team when I finish the current project and move to cuenca in january . If you are interested contact me and I will gladly give you my project in cuenca's address and fell free to go by and talk to Carlos and look over the project. Its 1200 sq meters and you can see the process and what great work they do. I will be glad to help if I can. Good luck .Rod

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Tempered glass:

We considered tempered glass for our courtyards but the costs was 3 to 4 times 60mm glass .Since we had such a large area to cover we went with the 60mm clear glass. I will ask my architect where he was going to get the glass and let you know. What size glass are you looking for? I will post when I find a answer for you. Rod

Ecuador Welcome Forum: importing a custom motorcycle:

This is something that I plan on doing when I get the house done and move down to Cuenca. Love bikes and cant wait to ride in the andes. My question is on a custom built bike there is no maker. You have a Vin # and year it was put together. Are custom bikes allowed? Harleys just on a custom frame.Has anyone done this. My man in Cuenca would like me to import used motorcycle parts to ecuador for him to sell. Is this possible?. A little different question but a real possibility. Rod

Ecuador: Ecuador Welcome Forum:

Perfect, What a great idea. I for one don't want to battle on any forum. I love the country and the people and a forum that treats people respectfully is exactly the one I am wanting to be a part of. I have been self employed for 37 years and have had to deal many people of different personalities .I choose now to only deal with the nice ones. Thanks

Ecuador: cutus morum:

You guys are right and the last thing I want is to be the morals police. The point I was trying to make is that a lot of readers out there myself being one, see all the bashing, name calling, and bickering keeping many from even asking a question or doing a post. I am sure you guys like things they way they are and who am I say different

Ecuador: renovating a property in Cuenca:

We are in the process of renovating a historic building in Cuenca an to say the least I have a bull by the horns. I am doing this from the states with traveling to ecuador every 3 months to check on things. We do have a architect and a full time employee to help with the process but here's my question.Does anyone have any idea what the average cost per sq meter to renovate a historic building in Cuenca is running. This project is about 900 sq meters in fair shape. Its is almost impossible to get anyone to give you a real quote on anything and when I have gotten one the famous last words come at the end of whatever I had done " that wasn't included" or "Its not my fault" I would love to hear from anyone that has renovated a house and has some hands on experience with one about real cost. Contracts seem to be not worth much when it comes to cost. Our blog " the ecuador chronicles" renovating a ruin in ecuador ,tracks our progress or shall I say lack of.Any helpful comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Ecuador: HELP!!!!!!!!!!:

This person just asked a simple question and instead of just answering the question some must just give a hard time, make fun of ,or just make a joke of. Sad that this is what the forum is becoming.

Ecuador: this forum is something else:

I have been reading the posts on this forum for a few months looking for information on ecuador. I am renovating a historic house in Cuenca and plan on moving there as soon as it is done and always looking for helpful info. This is my first time to post and I for one appreciate all the helpful information that some give. On the other hand there seems to be a few that love to attack and belittle people and seems now its more about private battles that most of us could care less about. I think most of us that are looking at this forum are searching for answers to questions about this beautiful country not more drama and petty battles between people who most don't even live there. . Just looking for helpful information about anything and everything Ecuador. From one looking from the outside in. Rod
