Brazil: Cost of real estate in Brazil:
A Brazilian friend of mine living in France tells me that that the cost of real estate is maintaining it's high values from it's former peaks even though the Real is going down fast, the unemployment rate is at 10% and the inflation rate and taxes are going up. Can this be true or perhaps he is speaking of the Real values and not the dollar values?
Spain: Spain as a tax avoidance haven:
Does Spain have a Wealth Tax like France? Does Spain tax income outside of Spain?
Spain: Moving to Spain:
Dancat, I am American and have lived in France for 22 years as a retiree. I can tell you that Americans and most other non-EU citizens need a visa to LIVE in France. None needed to visit as a tourist for 3 months but for longer stays you need a long stay visa which isn't hard to get. Contact the Spanish Embassy.
France: Exchangng a U.S. Driver License for a French One?:
Florida is a good state that has reciprocity. Go there, stay in one of the Apart-hotels, give the DMV that address of this hotel as your home address to get the Florida license and then exchange that license for your French license.
France: Calling for road side service:
There are the two digit numbers one calls in case of emergencies for the police, fire department and ambulance but is there such a number when you have an emergency on the road. Highways have those orange boxes but the walk to them may be quite a hike but as far as I know, those emergency phones don't exist on the secondary roads. Given we are in the age of the cell phone, is there a central number to call for a tow truck in France?
France: double taxation, etc:
I've lived in France for 20 years and availed myself of the Double Taxation Treaty but there is a little clause no one has mentioned. You are not taxed in France IF the taxes you paid in the US are equal to or less than what you would have paid in France. If they are less than what France would have charged, you will be taxed for the part over the US taxes. Technically, France is like the US in that all your incomes from all over the world are taxable. This is for French citizens or résidents alike.
France: Mortgages : France to US:
I really doubt it. The complications of foreclosing on a property in another country would make it a non-starter as collateral. No US bank would agree to that;
France: Prescription Copaxone:
I'm almost sure you cannot buy any medicnes in France without a French doctor's Ordenance (prescription) so you will have to visit a local doctor to see if he will write one for you.
France: Americans in the Center of France:
Domnine, I am a retired American guy living just outside Orléans which is about one hour from Bourges. You can contact me offline at jkinfrance@gmail.com
France: Where to Meet American Retirees:
Have you gone to the Securité Social office near you and asked to join the French Health Insurance system. There is a scheme for retirees call CMU for Couverteur Medical Universelle. The premiums are based on your income.
