Ecuador: Looking for 1 yr caretaker or rental house Cuenca/Loja area:

I'm a Portland, OR- based journalist and homeowner planning to spend a year working with Ecuadorean animal rescue groups starting this fall '11. My goal is to bridge the gap with the ex-pat community and find homes for a select group of loving and exceptionally well-trained homeless pets. I'm interested in the Cuenca/Loja area and wondering if anyone's got any ideas about how I might find an out-of-the-city home to rent or housesit. Note: I will not be running a rescue out of my home!
