Nepal: Seeking a flat:

Dear Barbara, You can have a look on www.apartment-kathmandu.com to find several flats on rent in the areas of Kathmandu and Lalitpur that you mentioned. Good luck Guido

Nepal: Permanent resident:

Marry a Nepali, or show that your able to spent 20.000 dollars a year. There had been a full stop on applications though, but maybe that is changed by now.

Nepal: living in a smog free place:

Opt for the edges of the Valley, especially the north. Have a look at Buddhanilkantha area.

Nepal: move to nepal:

Agree with CT1000. Be carefull with who you partner with. Especially if someone is pushing you.. Maybe you should come on a study visa stay in Nepal and learn more about all the possibilties. You can get a study visa if you go for a nepali language course at one of Kathmandu's universities. New semester will start in august i think. Good luck

Nepal: Best Volunteer org?:

Look up the adresses of hospitals in Nepal and send your cv and application for job / volunteer directly to them. Some can give you free accommodation. I wouldn't opt for a organisation who arrange volunteering work for you. Since they do charge you to volunteer. No idea why on earth there are people in this world that want to pay to do volunteer work. But there seem to be lot who do. Though some have a great time, some are very disappointed. I would definitely contact the hospitals myself. See Wikipedia for a list with hospitals in nepal.

Hava a look at our website http://www.apartment-kathmandu.com or send us directly an e-mail at info@apartment-kathmandu.com. Guido & Sangeeta.

Nepal: American marrying a Nepali:

Dear Rainselay, If your married in Australia. Than you have to legalise your marriage here at the cdo office of your man's district. After that you can easily get a marriage visa at the visa counter in Kathmandu. The marriage visa lasts maximum 1 year and is 10 dollars a month. For multiple entry you have to pay extra. Can you work in Nepal. I am not sure if that is officially allowed. But once your here and you will find a job a working visa shouldn't be to difficult to obtain. A job however that pays good might be a bit difficult. Unless you have experience with working for NGO's. Other possibilties might be working in the tourism sector or beeing a english teacher at one of the private institutions here in Kathmandu. Last saturday a Belgium girl described adjusting in Nepal as follows. Don't have any expectations. Lots of patience and don't expect that anything will go the same as home. Most difficult of living in KTM might be the polution. After five years in Nepal i'm still many time suprised how things work here. But as long as you live a bit tucked away in a peacefull area. Live is good in Nepal. But it is a big change. Good Luck with this huge step.
