South Africa: Moving to SA (Cape town) with kids:

Hello I am moving to SA with my partner who holds a SA passport. We are not married and I have a son from a previous relationship. I am wondering if I can register my son in school if we are entering the country on a tourist visa as we only plan to get married early next year. Do you have any advice for people moving over with children? When do I need to start looking at schools? What should I look for? Is there a way for us to meet other parents and children in the area outside of formal school activities? Hope to get some advice as this is quite daunting on me.
