Advice for New Expats

Language ask advise on what is acceptable behavior~ i was embarrassed when I learned women do not shake hands with men in Holland! an american standard thing pushed onto women here in the states since the 70's expect the unexpected and don't act shocked go with the flow! Don't ask for water at the dinner table or at a party! Less IS better!

Germany: temporary housing:

Hi actually I can help somewhat. Unless you can find a real Zeitung (newspaper) its almost IMPOSSIBLE. Do know most places require a "KAUTION" which is = to a security deposit here and you NEED TO BE VERY CLEAR on that right from the start.Looking online is DAUNTING.Watch out for SCAMMERS claiming they or someone like a father or relative Lives in the U.K. Therefore the office is there...so you need to watch out for being rented someonelses apartment losing out on your money and having no place to go accept a Hotel or Hostel. The key is to find a place the hard way and make certain the landlord is GERMAN and lives in Germany. Take before and after Video footage and photos to be on the safe side. Go to www.WG-gesucht.de to start Find a ReMax ageant here in the states for more guidance if thats possible. There is Re-Max there .. Hope this helps : )

Global Expat Forum: This was just sent to my email account-:

outgoing@expatexchange.net 11:46 AM (3 hours ago) to me Private Message from captainsursea Subject: Your Ramblings on the Expat Exchange Message: Many of us true expats that live offshore have read all your ramblings on this exchange. We have concluded that, either you are in need of help or, at best, in need of a reality check. I was chosen to contact you on this matter. Please stop - you can use other forums for your erratic postings or childish discourses. . . not ours. If you continue on this path we shall be forced to cut you off this website. Excuse me!!!This is a free country and the internet is free I did not post anything obscene-I was at one time a true expat person back in 09...and I want be an expat again and this site is for commentary and help I try to be helpful,I do not swear,I dont RAMBLE ....and I am not the only person who wants to know things before they can get over to the other side-I wish someone had told me before I went to Holland not to shake hands with a man because I was very embarrassed b y it and the company with me was also...Im searching for everything I can on here and if someone wants to give helpful advice thats great-But keep your pettiness and small mind from your own commentary.

Global Expat Forum: Germany:Hartz IV commentary:

Hi I was curious regarding the German "HARTZ IV...which is some form of financial help-I was looking for creative job places in Germany online here from America-I briefly read through someones posting.Today I had time to GOOGLE.DE this and found that HARTZ IV is a form of German Unemployment which I guess is as high only as 399 Euro's Most likely for Germans and those Leaute who have lived there for some time and a lot of paper work to boot I was at one time offered a possible Art&Design apprenticeship through a private school but I have yet to aquire housing and I need to enroll in a German Intensive language course.Hard to find cheap and SAFE housing for three people from 7000+ miles away. So anyone thats curious just go to http://www.hartziv.org/. I have run out of time myself for searching today thats all I know so far...

Germany: Post a Message of Support for France:

For all of France-My heart is with you all,it is shameful that Mr.Obama will not voice a condolance I cannt do this for him-wether its because of his Guilt feelings regarding his placement of spies in Europe or his personal feelings (being cold-regrettably) I'm sending my thoughts and prayers to everyone there re this tragic event a life is a life-precious.

Germany: Study in Germany:

All people no matter specialization or not a person has will have to go through the government . There are more ways however for Students or Nurses and Doctors or Scientists to get work. I HAD a proffessor in the US as my advisor at one time-Geology, he has an office in Switzerland I can give you his name if you would like in a private message of course...

Netherlands: The 'Dark Side' to Integration:

Hallo Dutchman! Finally someone to share with that I can help! I hope you will read and understand what I will tell you. I am an American who fell in Love with a Dutchman back in 2006 it was through the internet unfortunately but... What will save your marriage and this is important: What will save your marriage is this Love her even more now be closer to her It is scary for an American woman-I had no friends accept for the people at my childrens schoolPlease this is the MOST important!!! ~ Teach her how to speak Nederlands! YOURSELF -it's not easy but if you want to not get divorced this is the only way-and include her in your family group discussions-with your mom and dad, brothers and sisters help her also find a volunteer job for now she needs to get involved with your community-do not laugh at her when she tries to use that hard gutteral G Take her to do Dutch things to maduradam or the tulips near Amsterdam keep on romancing her you have to you must!!! I made the choice (bad choice) of flying back to the states in 2009 Dec 1st-I have never gotten over Holland I miss it-but-this man never included me in anything he hid me from his work collegues I never got to see the tulips nor really do anything special it all stopped as soon as we arrived there the romance died and he refused to help me learn Dutch-furthurmore let her be a LITTLE kleine beeje Amerikan once in a while dont pik on her for being american especially when you argue or disagree I wasnt his wife I was a dummy taking up space and he never broke off with his ex wife or his girlfriends, now almost 4 years later my heart is broken and I miss holland and I cannot return because I have now turned 50 years old-he left me crying at Schipol...Please dont do this to her? Please?
