Jordan: South African travelling to Jordan:

Hi there, I am Anas, a local from Amman (Jordan). Well we do have a lot of financial institutions here in Jordan, and I think you may have a good chance to find a job here, although we have a considerable rate of unemployment in Jordan and this makes it a bit hard for employers to hire non-Jordanians, but if you illustrate unique qualities, that they can use to convince the Ministry of Labor that we want this personnel, it would be rather much easier to hire you. Being here in Jordan is ultimately is the best way to look for job in Jordan! In many sectors, the official local newspaper is a major medium for all fine institution to call for vacancy candidates, unfortunately they do not distribute the same copy online, so you have to buy the print version of it, I think you might find it in some stores on a daily basis down there in South Africa. You should buy "Al-Rai" Jordanian newspaper and look for days Sunday to Thursday which are actually working days here in Jordan. Of Course you have to learn some Arabic sometime, but considerable number of the Ads are in English, so you still can find your way through. It is also important to register for job sites like: http://www.akhtaboot.com/en/jordan/ http://www.bayt.com/en/jordan/ which concern the local market. What other alternatives do you have, give me hints, can you teach for instance? what can you teach? Do you have some Athletic background for instance? Musical teaching? Anything, I would be more than happy to help! Best of luck and hope to hear from you! Anas

Jordan: Moving from England:

Hello(w) there! Looks like you are some kind of archeologist or researcher targeting residency in that place specifically. Well I think it would be an easy job to buy property there, I think it is still affordable to buy some property there because its way far from the capital Amman. Although I do not know much about the historical importance of that city, I haven't dug in it really. I am a local, and I haven't got much info about the residency process in Jordan, because I haven't been through! I think expats would help here. But I think as an English visitor you can stay here in Jordan for years without problems, but if you need to work, I think your employer has to issue you some kind of certification to pursue any job here, I think there are several plans for this, regarding the time you're entitled to work here in Jordan, I think studies and research do not fall under work category. Please give me tasks to ask for you here in Jordan and I will be more than happy to run it for you! I can go to official government departments and ask for you, I can head for police stations and ask for any process or regulation you might go through. do you want to buy an empty land? a separate individual house with a yard? or an apartment? would you consider staying in Amman temporarily and you look for a decent property on your own pace? What is the exact criteria that you are coming to Jordan under? and stay? .. work? tourism? are you coming by yourself or some party here in Jordan is inviting you? happy to help however I can, Anas

Jordan: Job seeking:

Hi Nicole, Hope I am not so late to you! Glad to be of any help I can be. Well, done a small homework here and found out that the term "International Studies" here is a bit wide to me, and regarding the fact that I am an Engineer by nature (back-end), and apparently this goes into the Humanitarian Sciences, with specialty in international relations (front-end), I think I need some help! So, help me help you, I found this: http://www.ncsu.edu/majors-careers/do_with_major_in/showmajor.php?id=97#admission which is a basic list of jobs that you might get, so if you're in your own country, where would you find those opportunities? Who would you connect to? which ministry would you target? which people would you followup with? Basically, what I have in mind now is government of international organizations, maybe diplomatic institutions or even embassies, so I need you to give me hints and tips that if you were to look for yourself in your own country, where would you go? Found this: http://education-portal.com/articles/Master_of_International_Studies_Degree_Overview.html Been to the MA section, its quite promising, prestigious, I hope I would manage to collect some info here in Jordan on where do these fit in. Here in Jordan I know one place that can help for sure that I come in handy, the official newspaper, official jobs are listed in the newspaper. Its the Holy month of Ramadan now, in which people fast from sunrise to sunset, and there is a pattern that job vacancies and hiring activities become a little quiet during these days. Do you have and dates that you need to act upon or before? Thanks a lot! Anas

Jordan: Weekend Events for Expats in Jordan:

Hi, I am Anas, a local from Amman. unfortunately, there isn't much that can amuse you here in Amman. speaking for myself, long walks and exploring places in Amman on foot is the best 'decent' joy you can find here in Amman. open for ideas ;) regards, Anas

Jordan: Job:

Hi, I am Anas, a local from Jordan. I think you will find much opportunities at schools, maybe academies. Teaching is a very big sector here in Jordan. by time, and with good reputation, you might specialize in certain area and compile your own courses for people of interest, other courses for undergrad college students, big business! but you have to start small steps here, you have to gain trust and occupation, you have to traverse tastes here in order to start a private business in teaching. you need the language to live happy here, but professionally speaking, I don't think you'd have any problems, all educated people here talk decent English, so don't let this keep you worried, yet, LeaRN THe LaNGuaGe, you'll be happy here and get it much easier to live in Jordan. Healthcare, you can find something considering your experience. you can send me your resume, I can show it to some friends in both industries, they can instruct me, maybe circulate among selective institutions here in Jordan. Best of luck, Anas

Jordan: Health Care in Jordan:

Hi, I am Anas, a local from Amman. I think it may be better to be healthcare-insured before coming to Jordan and your insurance covers you in Jordan, because local insurance companies here aren't the people who would not let you down. Hospitals, the private sector people are doing there homework very well, because the public sector isn't doing much in this area, so it is an open market. meaning is that you'd find very good healthcare here in Jordan, but very very! pricy! you either get your own insurance, accept the local insurance that could be sometimes very tricky and frustrating - or - eat well, drink good, exercise and you won't need both ;) Godspeed! Anas
