Bahamas: where to even begin...:
Hi B - In terms of immigration, I have plenty of friends who are here with their "boyfriend" or "girlfriend". They come in as tourists and as long as you show a return ticket within three months or so - you usually get no hassle. You will need to leave the island every so often but you can come back within 24 hours and get another three months. I would not sweat that. It's the least of the issues. Your biggest problem living here will be 1) Finishing your education 2) working and 3) obtaining money to pay bills in Canada or elsewhere. If I could be so bold I would suggest you stay in Canada and finish your studies and just fly to Freeport as often as you possibly can until you are done. Once you have a CPA designation getting a work permit with a firm in Nassau will be a lot easier. Good Luck. Debi
Bahamas: Is It Possible.:
Chui gave you an excellent answer. Honestly pretty difficult to just "get a job" here without a work permit. What is your field of expertise?
Bahamas: 90 day place to stay?:
Are you looking for temporary accommodation? I have a great apartment in desirable Sandyport and there is a large bedroom with en-suite bathroom available for you to rent. My apartment is two large bedrooms with two large en-suite bathrooms. We would share living room, kitchen and dining room. Central Air, Washer/Dryer, Terrace. Fully furnished with all you need. $1,600 per month includes all utilities (that would be your share). Available Oct/Nov/Dec 2015 and maybe beyond. I have plenty of photos to send to seriously interested persons. Inbox me with questions. Thanks!
Bahamas: RIDES:
Facebook has a page called Ex Pats Nassau or something like that. Maybe its Nassau Ex Pats. You can post what you are looking for. Also there is a page called "Tings for Sale in Nassau".
Bahamas: British female looking to socialize.:
Just a note to everyone on this thread, it can be impossible to meet people unless you really reach out and attend events. Check on FB for a group called Nassau Ex Pat Network. Also, there is a group here in Nassau called InterNations which seeks to bring people from all over the world together through social events. Join it. If you live out West where many expats do, there are usually places you'll find lots of expats too. Debi
Bahamas: Checking out Nassau before you move?:
I am an expat and I rent my second bedroom & private bath in popular Sandyport area. Been here since 2011 so can share much about the adjustment to Nassau and what you need to know before you move. Check it out at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2996325

Bahamas: bus schedule and car rental:
I know they run out East but as you can see, the schedules are less predictable. I think along East Bay and Eastern Road I have seen them up to 7 PM or even 8 PM. In terms of local car rental companies, you can try VIRGO. They are less expensive than Budget or Avis but they don't always have lots of cars.

Bahamas: expat community:
Hi - I am one of those women that found it difficult. I work full time days and could not seem to find ladies who were interested in get-togethers at night, etc. Finally met a few other expats - every age from 25 to 70 and we do monthly dinner parties. If you are willing to seek out and come meet for coffee and /or drinks after work - we will make sure you don't get lonely. Debi
Bahamas: Considering job promotion with relocation to Nassau:
Hi -
I assume if your employer is offering a promotion to Nassau, they will take care of the work permit piece. you'll need one. It's expensive and it's annually renewed so without that you cannot work here.
Rent is likely super high compared to Houston or Iowa. I pay $2K per month for a furnished two-bed, two bath place. This does not include any utilities and electricity (air-conditioning) is expensive here.
Cars are pricey too but can be had easily here. Be prepared to drive used and right-hand drive cars are best bargain.
As an expat, you may be more comfortable living in the west. I'm happy to correspond more. Just send me a private message.
