Costa Rica: Help bring a Mobil Castration Unit to Costa Rica:

This is a great opportunity for the pets of Costa Rica...you've been invited to help raise money for Mobile Spay Neuter Unit Costa Rica. Join Pura Vida para Mascotas in raising the funds for a Mobile Unit that can serve all of Costa Rica. Get your vets involved to volunteer and the Mobil Unit can come to your communities and your neighborhoods. Simply go to the page below and click the big FUNDRAISE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN button and you'll instantly have your own fundraising page as a part of our Team. This is a very lofty goal and we need help from all the rescue and Animal Welfare Groups,Veterinarians, as well as individuals to be able to pull this one together. Imagine this unit coming to an area and reaching out to the people who have no way of getting their pets to a vet for castration, immunizations or health checks. Now imagine your group helping to make this happen! Start your own team and help us raise the money needed for this great project! And share this information so others can start teams in their areas! http://www.crowdrise.com/mobilespayneuterunitcostarica Please email me if you need help with anything. Thanks so much. ??Pura Vida para Mascotas, Susan

Costa Rica: Tricare:

Yes, I am pretty sure it works here. We have numerous people here retired from the service that are not 65.

Costa Rica: Cost of living:

I am a single "old" lady living in Grecia in the Central Valley for 4 years, and feel very safe here. We have an active expat community and are close enough to San Jose that taking care of business or health is not a two day project. I live just below Poas where the temp is very comfortable all the time. Grecia is down the mountain and is probably 5 degrees warmer but still pretty comfortable.

Global Expat Forum: single retired:

I came by myself over 3 years ago and live in Grecia. There is a very active expat community here which was a great advantage. No problem!

Costa Rica: Medicare payments:

This brigs up a question I have had about volunteering and being exempt from the penalty if the organization is providing insurance. I have established a CR NonProfit and wonder if this would apply to us?

Costa Rica: Feedback on the best mountain towns:

Grecia is a great area where you can live in town where it is warmer or enjoy the micro climates of the mountains. We are at 4900 ft. and have a view of the entire central valley as well as Turrialba, Poas and all the surrounding mountains. The temperatures here are very mild and comfortable and the community of Expats is very friendly and active!

Costa Rica: Looking for Roommate/Room to rent:

Saw your post and thought I would share this information for our home: Rooms for rent in the beautiful Central Valley! If you are considering a move to Costa Rica but are not quite ready to commit or perhaps you are interested in saving up to 50% on extensive dental work, we have a lovely house with short term or long term room rentals. We began this great adventure alone, have been in the Grecia area for a few years and are enjoying the opportunity to help others make the transition to this beautiful, scenic and temperate area. The house has amazing views and this area is full of happy expats with active social lives. $350. per month gives you access to all our household amenities and our Costa Rican experiences. Currently we have openings after December 1, 2014.

Costa Rica: Dog Rescue Volunteers Needed Urgently:

I would love more information having been in the pet industry for years. I owned and participated in a Boarding, grooming and training facility for 35the years. I was a Certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and taught classes for years. I participated in Weimaraner Rescue and fostering. I currently reside in Grecia and have a small dog of my own. I love the peninsula and visit as often as possible. Please email me and I will send my phone number.

Costa Rica: transporting two lap dogs:

I ran into this problem when flying United and they switched me to Delta in Denver. They said I would have to take my dog to cargo there and he would arrive in CR as cargo. This meant I would have to leave him until the nent day and pay a broker $400 +to get him out of hock.If you can carry them on do it. Sampson was 10 lbs over but I stuffed him in a crate and unzipped it so he could hang his head and feet out while waiting at the airport and flying. My hyper Jack Russel was an angel for the entire 14 hour trip! I would say DO NOT ship as cargo if you can help it. If the pet remains "excess luggage" it was fine 2 years ago , but check current rules and check with different airlines.

Costa Rica: checking out Costa Rica:

I find Atenas to be pretty hot and humid compared to some of the communities higher up. Just my personal opinion. I am located up the mountain from Grecia where it is cooler and prefer this climate.
