Mexico: Medical insurance:

Have you checked into IMSS, Mexico's national health insurance? If you are reasonably healthy, you can join this for a cost around $200 a year (if you're below 60 years old) to a little over $300 a year if you are over 60. It covers doctor visits, medicine, hospitalization, some dental and eye examinations, and there are no copays. It is, of course, clinic style medicine, sometimes confusing to navigate, little English spoken, and long waits for procedures. I go to private doctors for my regular healthcare, but it's nice to have this as a backup for something catastrophic. The surroundings are not fancy (think 1950's military hospital for a lot of their facilities) but the doctors are usually excellent and take time with you.
