Ecuador Welcome Forum: New Data doesn't leave Ecuador looking very good.:

I agree. It is very concerning.

Ecuador: Need advise on CuencaRealEstate.com:

Hello, Can anyone tell me if CuencaRealEstate.com is a trusted source to work with on purcahsing real estate in EC? Are their prices of real estate listed fair and accurate? On one hand, the fact that they charge buyers 1-2% fee on the sale price of the property is a red flag. On the other hand, they specialize in expats buying property in Cuenca and will hold your hand through the process. This can be invaluable to someone who has no conenctions in EC, knows nothing about purcahsing forein proerpty, and doesn't speak/write/read Spanish. I appreciate any advice you can provide. Have you worked with them or know someone who has? What's the word on the street about them? Have you worked with a trusted realtor and lawyer to buy proerpty in Cuenca? Thanks so much.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Need advice on CuencaRealEstate.com:

Hello, We have found a house on CuenaRealEstate.com that we are interested in learning more about. I need advice from people if these realtors are trustworthy and if the real estate listed is priced fairly. One red flag for me is that the realtors charge 1% commission to the buyer. On the other hand, they specialize in hand holding the foreign buyer through the purchasing process to ensure that they do not get ripped off... and this sounds very good indeed to someone who has absolutely no experience in buying a foreign property and no real knowledge of Ecuador or contacts there. Thanks so much for your help!!!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Need Advice for Cuenca Realtors:

I am new to this forum and exploring opportunities to move abroad. Ecuador is at the top of the list owing to its low cost of living and climate. Can anyone please suggest some realtors to work with in Cuenca, ones that speak English? I do not speak Spanish and I wonder how much of a barrier that will be for me. Obviously I will have to learn when I get down there. Do you have any suggestions for that? I wonder about Gringo prices. Do you find that you pay more than the locals for items, such as housing, because you are given stupid gringo prices? Thanks so much!

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Seeking advice from ESL teachers in Ecuador:

Hello, I am new to this forum and appreciate invites to your network. We are exploring becoming expats from the US and Ecuador is at the top of the list as out first destination. My husband wants to teach ESL and I am wondering about the opportunities to do so, as well as the requirements, for Ecuador. Can one make a living teaching ESL in any part of Ecuador os must it be in the city? I've been looking at Cuenca but I'd also like to live on the ocean. My husband has a BA in SOcial Sciences but is not a teacher in the US. He is looking at TEFL certifcates so that he can teach ESL abroad. Is this enough qualification to teach in Ecuador? Are the teaching assignments long-term or short term? Can you recommend any particular TEFL courses that are good? There are lots available and it is hard to seperate the scams from what is good. Some courses run thousands and other run hundreds. THanks so much for your help.
