Nicaragua: Used smartphone wanted:

I have an SVP I6 Pro smart phone in mint conditionm complete in the original box with charger, etc; The phone will take a SIM card from anywhere globally. If you'd like to make an offer on it, I will be happy to ship it to you from Oregon. Not sure what the charges would be, but I think not that much. Can check on that if you wish. If interested please feel free to contact me at rjh7349@yahoo.com and put "PHONE" in the subject line to call my attention to it if you will please. Hope this helps.

Nicaragua: Awww ... Come on ... Somebody Must Have Recipes:

In response to the matter of roaches (and ants) which Spiritsage discusses, I offer a bit of information which I learned a number of years ago as the General Manager of a pest control company. This will work like magic if you'll give it a chance, and I like it because I don't like chemicals and their potential for harm to our health. The secret? Common Boric Acid (in powdered form). Yes... the same stuff eye wash is made with. Totally safe and natural, and deadly to many common insects including all cockroaches, most ants, and a variety of other crawling critters. Use the white Boric Acid powder by simply sprinkling it along any area/s where insects crawl routinely and are problematic. They need only walk though it regularly so that it gets on their feet. Nature does the rest, and little by little they disappear (die off) and don't return. This is NOT a "quick kill" solution but the results will be clearly noticed within the first couple of weeks. DON'T clean up the Boric Acid powder unless it becomes damp because it will continue working indefinitely as long as it remains dry. It will NOT harm pets, children, nor anything else of the kind and it is typically very inexpensive. Hope this proves helpful to everyone.

Panama: General Economics Question:

In giving very careful thought to Panama as a long dreamed of retirement destination, there are a couple of questions which I have not seen addressed on any of the expat blogs. I would greatly appreciate the thoughts and insights of any who may wish to comment on either question with many thanks to all in advance... 1) With the Panamanian currencies both linked tightly to the U.S. dollar, what might be expected were the U.S. dollar and resulting banking system to partially or totally collapse??? There has been increasing talk of this very scenario, and to those who have followed such matters none of it is good by any means. 2) With more specific attention given to American expats, what kind of chaos or repurcussions might be anticipated when SSi or related savings could no longer be accessed leaving one without the means to pay rent, buy necessities, or travel from one location to another in a country where they remain an "outsider"??? Highly unpleasant thoughts admittedly, but it would seem well worth giving serious consideration to... Thanks once again to everyone and I look forward to any responses. Bob rjh7349@yahoo.com

Nicaragua: Concerning General Living Costs:

With the growing instability and uncertainty in the U.S., we had made plans to relocate/retire in Panama, however more recently have learned that serious crime along with increased living costs would seem to make that a matter of concern for us both. While the various opinions vary wildly on the blogs concerning the pro's and con's of any given locale, I would most deeply appreciate hearing from anyone about how realistic it is to consider that two people could live a very simple, modest, quiet, and safe life in Nicaragua? Aside from the fact I have heard electricity costs are virtually insane, the warmth and friendly nature of the people sounds fantastic, as does the very minimal violent crime rate of the country. Would approximately U.S. $1,200.00 each month be nearly sufficient, or is this altogether unrealistic to expect? Suggestions and/or insight would be very much welcome with regards to the best locations to consider, along with any appropriate related details and information. We want to make this change ASAP at this point, but with limited funds cannot afford judgement errors, hence this request for insight. My sincere and heart felt thanks to all. Please feel free to contact me via this blog or my direct email address is provided below. Bob rjh7349@yahoo.com
