Hi Snowbird, I just returned from a 1 year teaching english job in Mexico. All in all you can calculate getting as much as Mex10,000pesos a month. You might be able to get a small studio or bedroom too depending on where you are. IN the DF your skills come down in value. Many Mexicans that speak english teach there. The further outside of the DF the more demand. Private schools are your best bet. They have the liberty to negotiate. I found that my TEFL certificate meant NOTHING! LIving in Monterrey as large as it may be has got to be much nicer than living in the DF ! It can take 2-3 hours just to cross the city!

Hi LateB! I live in the DF and I live on my US$900 SS. It is more than enough as long as I stick to the middle class Mexican life style! There are many "US style" stores and restaraunts. To be avoided at ALL costs! Buena suerte!
