Saudi Arabia: New to Saudi:

Banking here is really quite simple. Welcome by the way. I was part of the BAe world through my husband although I work for a different organisation. It is easy to set up a Saudi bank account and do regular payments. Online banking is just the same as at home. Money here is not taxed. I am not so familiar with laws in UK but i think there is probably an arrangement that salary earned here is not taxed in either country but you would need to check on that. I am not a British citizen so send my money elsewhere. My husband is a Brit but I an fairly sure his salary was not taxed in UK.

Saudi Arabia: How do I get A Divorce, After my Iqama:

The only way you will find out for sure is to approach a lawyer. If you can get a recommendation all the better.

Saudi Arabia: Salwa garden village riyadh any info please:

Hi, have not been to Salwa but have lived part-time on Sara ( the equivalent BAe compound in Dhahran). Life on compound is pretty much like life in a suburb at home (up to a point). You may wear what you would usually wear at home while within the confines of the compound. Once you go outside you must wear an Abaya. It is not necessary to wear a head scarf in most circumstances but wise to carry one. Most women wear it around the neck. I find it useful sometimes as shelter from the hot sun. Your daughter is not obliged to wear anything other than nornal clothing until puberty. You will make friends with other families especially if you are involved with the school. It will be quite a culture shock for you at the beginning but it will not take too long to learn the ropes.

Saudi Arabia: Compund living:

I assume you mean Mubarraz as a suburb virtually of Hofuf. This is quite a large city part of the Al Ahsa region and growing rapidly all the time. Single status does not necessarily mean that you cannot bring your family but that you will have to bring them at your own expense. If you have the correct job status visa it will be possible but it does depend on the job status. Compound living can be helpful for wives to join in activities in some instances which can make life a lot more interesting and tolerable. I am not aware of Western compounds in the area as I am on a job related compound in the region. However, they do exist I am sure. Nada Farm Compound could be worth checking out but I am not sure as to it's availability. Transport is always laid on for compound residents to go shopping etc.

Saudi Arabia: Working for KAMC, Jeddah:

Hi, I work for NGHA also at a different location. Maybe I can help. Used to work in Jeddah.

Saudi Arabia: MERS virus:

MERS virus is a concern but it is not readily passed between people if correct precautions are taken to prevent infection. Hand washing, covering the mouth when coughing and sneezing are advised as usual. If one is in a crowded place and wishes to reduce the risk, wear a mask.

Saudi Arabia: moving:

I have been worked for National Guard twice - Jeddah 5 years, Al Ahsa now for 9 years. It is one of the better organisations for which to work. Accommodation at Jeddah and Riyadh are almost identical and quite reasonable. Al Ahsa is very sub standard. In Riyadh, the facilities are quite good on compound with regular shopping buses and organised trips. The Western contingent is less than in its heyday but you will make your own friends on and off compound.

Saudi Arabia: Nursing in Saudi Arabia:

I am Allied Health worked in Middle East (mostly in KSA) for 16 years. Have known many Western nurses (some who have come here as couples). If you are in a major hospital you will have few problems although adjusting to local cultural differences does take some doing. As a Westerner you will strike trouble if you do not have a speciality ( paeds, renal, midwifery etc) Life as a general nurse with other nationalities is not desirable. As a couple, I assume you mean married as nothing else will be tolerated. Coming here should be looked at as an adventure and a means to achieving a goal (e.g.saving for a house deposit) as one couple who are friends of mine did. Usually you will work 12 hour shifts. This can be very tiring until you get used to it. You may find that you and your partner become like ships that pass in the night at times. Life here can be very rewarding if you are willing to accept the differences.

Saudi Arabia: Single Woman Moving to KSA?:

This is necessary for all workers in KSA. You should be coming through a recognised agency and they should be able to advise you on the procedures in your country. It is not wise to come without the assistance of an agency. All relevant qualificactions have to be notarised.

Saudi Arabia: Prince mohammed Univeristy:

As far as I am aware Spinneys have not yet made it to KSA only UAE. However, I understand that they intend to open here in the future.
