Mexico: Expired FMM tourist permit:
the bit that I know is from other people who were in the same situation. 1) if you leave Mexico from whereever ... you will go through immigration and they will notice you have over stayed. Two people I know just paid fines... like a couple hundred US dollars, other friends were told they would not be able to return to Mexico for the amount of time they overstayed their visa. These situations happened in 2014 and 2015. If he was hospitalized he should gather records, doctors notes, receipts, etc for all that and the best bet and safest maybe to plead his true situation at the embassy in Mexico City. If he goes to Guatamala ... Mexico may not let him in again. good luck
Mexico: Getting Social Security into Mexico:
it does depend on your bank in the US but I use the ATM and can take out 6000 pesos per day which is a lot. And my US bank refunds my ATM transaction fees. Also once you have residency (not your tourist visa 180day) you can open a Mexican bank account. Everyone raves about CI Banco for its great service.
Italy: Trieste . expat or other groups?:
Thinking of moving to Italy, Trieste and wondered if anyone had a website or address for any social and or expat groups in this area. Grazie.
Mexico: Best gay friendly towns?:
not sure if you could say it is the 'best' but I have quite a few gay friends here in Guanajuato, Mexicans and gringos.
Mexico: Tao investment:
I am very familiar with Tao Inspired Living and have been involved for 3 years now. I am extremely satisfied with the community and the service. However I agree that you should always visit and try to stay for a while before investing. On the other hand TAO may not be for year around living and then... with that in mind... it is quite wonderful. The discovery weekends are sales and intro times.... fun...but you can tour and get to know the area without going on a 'weekend'. If you want more info... pls write me personally. thanks
Mexico: Obamacare:
yes of course because it is as Federal program but you must contact the state were you last had or still have residency to sign up for the ACA Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) through that state. My experience was that in order to sign up I had to prove I 'belonged' to that state. My drivers license was good enough and then I needed an address in that state. An old friend's address where I could get mail was also fine. The state sent me to one of the state approved 'providers' and with my friend's address in that state... I was able to sign up and make a payment and then get a medical card and then go to a doctor in the states.... despite having lived outside of the US for years.
Mexico: Best City For Me?:
Guanajuato City is mostly lib as well.... but open minded is the best quality of our expat population
Mexico: And so it begins...:
but what kind of advice are you looking for??? My advice is to get rid of things you don't need, scan or pack the rest and jump on a plane to a city that interests you (based on your research and reading) rent an apartment for a couple months and check it out. Talk to other people and take weekend trips to other cities. That is certainly one way to start the expat experience. Everyone does it slightly different... no wonder... we are all different. Right?
Mexico: Considering/planning retirement in Mexico:
Yes I agree with the House Sitting or AirB&b options. Many people come through Guanajuato and stay for 6 weeks or more to just check it out. Some discovered it is perfect for them (has the friends, culture, activities etc they are looking for) and others decided it won't work for them for different reasons. (cost, topography of city, Spanish, etc) We are always happy to see people who come to Guanajuato seeing if it is the city for them. Good luck and take your time. Although you can always move again :)
Mexico: Health Insurance for U.S. Expats under age 65:
