Panama: Coronado Panama:
I live next door to Coronado. My electric bill averages $25 to $40 per month. I rarely use the A/C. I am on the 9th floor of a condo and I get a good breeze most of the time.
Remember, to each their own. I love the warmth of the beach here. I do not like the cold in the mountains. But many people like the cool of the mountains. It is what you like that matters.
Panama: medications:
There are many drugs in the usa that are not here. But there are others that do the same thing. For prescription, you have to have doctor here prescibe them. Many of the prescription in the states are not prescriptions here. Like my wife's High Blood Pressure meds. She does not need a prescription for them. However, she had to go to a doctor here and change to a different kind. Then after a few months she had to go back to the doctor and adjust it a bit. But she has now been on the same bp meds for 2 years. If you can speak Spanish, you can go to a small clinic for $8. If not the modern clinic charges $20, but all of the doctors there speak English. I went to a specialist in Panama City and it cost $45.
Panama: Emergency move to Panama!:
Spiritualwarrior - You are not giving us much to go on. Where in Panama are you going? What kind of help do you need? Do you need a job? You mentioned having skills, what kind?
Panama: Cell service:
You can sign up for Magic Jack with a USA phone number. I have seen them go straight to smart phones with data service. Cost is $70 for the jack and that covers the first year. then $30 per year. You can buy them at Best Buy or Radio Shack.
I do not know how to hook it up to a smart phone, but I know people that have done it.
I don't live in the bocas so I don't know how their service is out there. My Panama cell phone worked just fine there when I visited.
Panama: Moving to Panama with school age children!:
Unfortunately, you need to live at the beach or in the mountains or travel 30+ minutes. For example you could live in El Valle in the cooler mountains and travel 40 minutes to Santa Clara to an english speaking school and to the beaches there or travel 50 minutes to Coronado to those beaches and the two english speaking schools there. Golf courses are down by the beaches. There are houses along the way to El Valle and other places that would get up up a bit higher and then only 15-20 minutes to the beaches and schools, etc.
You would have to check with someone else for the situation out west around David to see how close you can get to golf and schools and still be close to the beach, But I am thinking it would be 45 minutes plus there too,
As far as being in Panama City, you would have to drive an hour out to good beaches from there,
Panama: Driving in Panama:
Silly Law? The law says you can be here for 90 days on your passport and drive on any valid license during that time. Nothing silly there. There is a mandate stating that you can stay for 180 days. Not a law. Everyone honors that 180 days, so no problem. But they are not going to change the law regarding 90 days of driving unless them actually make a law that says you can stay 180 days. Many countries have 90 day laws - Like Costa Rica. You are a guest here - live by the rules. If you don't like it - stay away
Panama: Fantasy football league:
I belong to 2 leagues now, so I would not be interested in another.
There are some guys here in the Coronado area that meet every Monday night and then on Sunday to watch football.
Panama: My favorite places to eat in Panama::
have you ever tried the taco shack across the street from the market place in El Valle? Great tacos and great fresh juices,
Panama: Moving to Panama:
Your question about living are way to vague to answer from what you wrote. Hit me up at robinskelton@ymail.com. I am in realestate, but I do NOT do rentals. I know lots of people that do rentals.
Panama: Nightmare in Panama:
Here is my 2 cents. YOU broke a contract with some people. They can not figure out why. so what if you only have one a/c unit. They probably don't even have one in their own house. So what if your fridge was old. The one in their house is old too. So what if your a/c unit leaked. Water doesn't hurt anyone. From their point of view - you suck. You cheated them - you are not honest - you are not reasonable at all. Step into their shoes for a while and maybe you can see it.
And by the way, the police man was their brother in law, the judge was their uncle, the lawyer was their neighbor.
If you think that you are being wronged - first go to a lawyer and a judge and file suit against them. get a judgement before you just leave.
I understand the health issue, but they DON'T.
Be glad that they only got what they got and go on with your lives.
I am not saying you were wrong. I am saying that this is Panama. You need to play the game using their rules,
