Ecuador Welcome Forum: Single woman travelling alone:

Dear Linda, I am a 65 year old single white female that moved to the southern coast of Ecuador a little over a year ago. I have no fear of riding a taxi or bus in my part of the woods. However, the big cities would require a recommendation for a taxi driver. I would never drive in Ecuador. It is totally different from the US. You may be more adventuresome but I would definitely do the bus or a taxi. You don't say where you will be going but if you come to the Salinas area I would be happy to meet with you. I have another lady friend who moved here about 6 months ago by herself and she is 70. We both love it here.

Ecuador: Packing list for a month?:

Dear Mappam, bring that benadryl!! Impossible to find here and also tylenol, ibuprofen and any other pain reliever you use. But I would check out the pharmacy when you get here. Just give them your prescription bottle and ask how much it is. You don't need a prescription for many medicines including hypertension etc. You may be very surprised to find out how cheap it is here. Have a great visit.

Ecuador: Amenities in Salinas?:

Casadecuenca you are full of it... s**t that is. The Ecuadorean coast is beautiful and the people are wonderful. I am sick of you running down the coast and any other place that is not Cuenca. Salinas is a resort town with a beautiful bay lots of restaurants, grocery stores, shopping and friendly people. Go north on the coast and see some unbelievably beautiful beaches and talk to happy expats and locals alike. Stop in Mantanita and watch world class surfing eat at great restaurants and shop local craftsmen. Further up the coast again you see wonderful beaches and dine well. And don't forget the whale watching, paragliding, snorkling and scuba diving. Come see for yourself.

The salad spinner is an incredible and ingenious product. You won't believe how dry the lettuce comes out once you use one. Beats drying with paper towels by a landslide. Wish I had one but my kitchen is now too small to store it in,.

Ecuador: Rental Deposits, kiss your money goodbye:

And please don't print all landlords with the same brush. I just finished a rental that I lived in for a year on the beach. My last day the landlord drove from GYE and checked the house out and thanked me for taking such good care of their home. She then handed me my deposit back. That would have never been the case in the US. I am now renting a place in Ballenita that was rented by people I know in the past and they were treated like royalty. The owner just asked me if I would like to drive into town with them this morning to go shopping. They are wonderful people and I have no doubt I will enjoy my year here as well as I did in Cautivo. I really dislike generalizations.

Come on folks you are killing me here. Where is this Southern BBQ place? I am from Texas and BBQ is a stable like chicken fried steak and gravy. Please don't tell me it is in Cuenca!!
