Once you get your ACR (either tourist, probatory or permanent) go to LTO and convert your UK to PI. I'm also in Bulacan and the Santa Maria LTO will not covert your lic, I did mine in GuiGuinto LTO. Drop me a PM if you need some help in Bulacan or would like to meet for coffee, we do have a small expat group that meets once a week for coffee.
Philippines: Question on a Probationary Visa 13A:
I was issued my Probationary Visa 13A today and I fail to ask if I can fly out of PI for a few week while on Probationary Status? I was told by another expat that he thinks I can not. I'm schedule for a trip to VN in Feb '17 and i do not want to miss it.
Thanks in advance
Philippines: 13A Visa Question:
I'm going to start the process for my 13a visa next week, but I was told that once you start the process you can not depart Philippines during your probation year. It's that correct? As I schedule to travel for three weeks next Feb. thanks in advance.
Philippines: Motorcycle touring the fils backroads?:
I did 11 days on my GS 800 here in PI, but I my wife was also with my. Lessons:
Take a local with you, the moment they see you alone, the prices will go up and a bigger target you are for scams.
A new bike is a target, you can get a used one and get it tune up and maybe the engine rebuilt. Few places in Angeles City you can buy a used bike and rebuilt the eng by the time you get there.
Make prior coordination where to stay, look for security in the parking garage.
I lived in South and Central America for six years, only two countries I did not visit, Philippines is different. Filipinos are great and friendly people, but lots will take advantage of expats, because as the said "we are blessed" For many of them we are rich and is call the Robin Hood syndrome. So, be ready.
Go only, a few places that you can get help setting up places to stay. Few expats run motorcycle touring companies in PI. I'm at work now, when I get to the house I will send you some site. They help me picking locations and routes.
Make sure you have repair kit for flats, you will have a few of those.
Buy a helmet in PI, Philippines' requires your helmet to pass safety inspection and have the ICC sticker on, as an expat, lots of cops will be looking at you in the bigger cities. If you bring your helmet, then take it to the local DTI office for inspection. Once again, cheaper to get one here.
You are required to wear your helmet while ridding. In the big cities, you will get stop for not having the helmet on. Out in the country side is 50/50 that they may stop you.
Now, I never go back to Manila on my bike, when I did, I got pulled over and had to paid the cop to let me go. Outside Manila, pulled over 30 or more times, but all just to check the bike, take pictures and just friendly cops.
Later, going back to work
Philippines: Retire in Sta Maria, Bulacan:
Sherm,
It's up to you. I love the place, its away from Manila, but also just a drive a way. Now, have you visit PI before? If so, for how long? In my opinion, you need to visit and stay here for some time and see for yourself. I know a few expats that like the place and others that hate the place. Send me a PM if you would like more detail info.
Philippines: Need visa info.:
I need some help, please. I'm ready to do my permanent move to PI. My wife is filipina, our house is almost done. I have everything ready in PI. I was told that the best way to start my visa 13a process, is for her to land with me and start it at the visa/passport control window in the airport. It's this right? Or should I do what the BI websites says, get the tourist visa and then go to the BI office?
Philippines: Which one is best option?:
Ok, it's up to you. My wife and I own our lots and homes. First, get land and built if you are sure about your spouse. Many expats are not sure about their spouses. If you are, then get a lot and custom build your house. It took me almost a year to get the right contractor. Do your research, is you have question, just PM me. One thing that I was told and I live by it. "Move 3 hours away from your spouse's family. That is the only way to own your home."
Philippines: Military ID card:
Yes, check this site:

They are also a few satellite offices around PI. I know there is one in the Subic area.
Philippines: moving to the philippines 2012:
Hey, I live in Santa Maria for the last 2 years. In respect to your request; First, have you ever visit PI? In my area there is no flooding, but some areas can get up to 2 meters of water. I will send you all the info you need, but the main thing that I need to know is, have you visit PI? Is different than the UK. We have about 30 expats living in Santa Maria.
Philippines: Export/Import Vehicle fm USA to Philippines:
I just got a car there. The fees are up to 150%. I was able to ship a Harley and a GS bikes without paying customs. But I shipped them from Kuwait. If I'm you, just get a car there. Buy a new car, never get anything used there.
