I'm a new expat living and loving Salinas, Ecuador. I've been a psychologist in private practice in San Francisco, CA for 25 years and finally decided I'd had enough and I had lost my passion in that venue. I'm hoping to rekindle it here. I specialize in substance abuse/alcoholism, life changes, depression, grief and relationship issues. I'm also an avid salsa dancer, mediocre guitar player, and private pilot student hoping to finish it someday soon.

Advice for New Expats

Expect it to be emotionally difficult and be mindful that there is nothing wrong with you and none of it is your fault or weakness - Anxiety and depression are normal human responses to major life changes and not indicative of anything else. You're fine. You will be fine. The light at the end of the tunnel is not a train coming at you! And please don't think that depression and/or anxiety means you made the wrong choice. It means nothing, and it will pass. Give your new home a chance, at least a year.

For all you Benadryl lovers out there - For some of many ridiculous reasons regarding medicines Benadryl is prohibited in Ecuador. However I just discovered Atarax (Hidroxicina), which is basically the same chemically with more of an anxiolytic effect, but it's also an antihistamine and used for everything Benadryl is.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: More flights Salinas Airport:

TAME has just added a new day to its flights to/from Salinas/Quito. Friday is now added to Thursdays and Sundays, same schedule. Departing flights leave shortly after 8pm.
