Global Expat Forum: How to Ingratiate Yourself Abroad:

I do not recommend that expats try to "ingratiate" themselves with locals. See the definition: "bring oneself into favor with someone by flattering or trying to please them. "a social climber who had tried to ingratiate herself with the city gentry" synonyms: "Integrate" might be the better choice.

Argentina: Choosing gift vouchers for Argentine staff:

I won't comment on the voucher issue. But my experience in Argentina is that the traditional holiday gift for employees is a basket of goodies. It may include a bottle of wine, cider or "champan," seasonal cakes and pastries, other special food items such as jams or cheese or sausages, and holiday candies such as turron. You can create your own basket, or buy one of the many already put together and are widely available in supermarkets, bakeries, gift shops, candy stores, etc. at a range of prices.

Argentina: Help please:

Go to the websites for their embassies and consulates.

Global Expat Forum: Where to Retire:

Regarding your query about what to move to an overseas location: In your research, you need to learn each country's rules about what you can bring in duty-free. It is common for there to be a limit, say $10,000, worth of personal effects. Also, simply stated, moving furniture and the like internationally is very expensive so anyone on a limited budget probably should make do with shipping as little as possible.

Global Expat Forum: Vietnam Immigration Counter at Vietnam International Airports:

Why are such country-specific issues being discussed on the global forum? They just create a lot of posts that interest only the people who are in or going to that country.

Mexico: Cuernavaca:

Interested in hearing about expats' experiences living in Cuernavaca, and suggestions for lodging for an investigative trip.

Mexico: Guanajuato:

Interested in expats' experience of living in Guanajuato. Pros, cons, any other relevant info. Thanks.

Mexico: Guadalajara:

I am interested in hearing from expats who live in Guadalajara. How do you like it there? Pros and cons, etc. Thanks.

Mexico: Ensenada, Guadalupe Valley area:

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who lives in this area--best places to live, pros and cons, cost of living, crime, etc.

Chile: cell phone:

Viber.com is an Internet phone service that seems to work well. You and the person you are talking to must install it, but it is easy and free.
