I am a semi-retired, or taking a break , petroleum geophysicist who just finished working 10yrs in Saudi Arabia in reservoir development. I have lived and worked in many countries: Brazil, Venezuela, Uruguay, Argentina, Nigeria, Algeria and Philippines+ others. I have homes or vacation rental properties in Philippines and Panama. I like free horizons, good: company,wine and conversation. I also like to cook a bit when not distracted by financial markets and adore God's best gift to man.

Advice for New Expats

Residencies and bureaucratic entanglements can usually be manged without expensive lawyers, helpers/ facilitators. I detest the vultures that prey on unsuspecting new prey. Don't be too lazy and many times you may be able to do it yourself. At least shop around and dont let them bilk you a lot of moiney for doing almost nothing. Do a little looking into it and you may find you can save thousands $. I obtained my residency in Uy with the help of a German lawyer who only charged me $300 vs a high flying International Living promoted lawyer who wants $3000.

Chile: Form an LLC free online:

Hola Amigos, does anyone have any experience creating an LLC online? When I tried it a couple years back it wasn't functioning Are there any tips or tricks to get it to work. Is it working now? RE: 2013 on this site-The online form to create a company in Chile can be accessed via Chile's Ministry of Economy (Ministerio de Economía de Chile) website. Then, it is a simple case of following the form stages, input the required information and sign the form. Because, it is all done electronically there is no need of mediation from a third-party, which means you save hundreds of dollars in lawyer and notary's fees. Muchos Gracias y Buna suerte

Chile: Internet via USB Broadband available:

Friends , can you tell me if internet is widelya available using what is frequently called " broadband" at an attractive monthly fee in Chile? The simcard from the service provider goes into a small usb "broadband " device that plugs into your pc usb. even more attractive are the "pocket" wifi devices, such as Huawei produces. The sim card is inserted into the pocket wifi and 4-5 users can connect to the internet. You charge the pocket wifi and carry it in your pocket to have internet connection anywhere there is signal.
