Philippines: Visa, ACR and Travel:
Hello, I have three related questions on traveling from the Philippines to overseas. Hope it was ok to post here.
1) Presently living in the Philippines over 1 year and will travel with my filipina spouse outside the country. Presently on a tourist visa and she is a Philippine resident with Phil passport. On returning to the Philippines, will I be able to get a balibayan stamp?
2) Are there any custom fees associated with things I've purchased in the Philippines and wish to take in my luggage?
3) If I can get the stamp, do I have to purchase an onward ticket out of the Philippines for my return?
Thanks in Advance,
Rick
Philippines: mail abroad:
FedX. Never has failed to or from the Phillipines.
Philippines: Traveling to the Philippines via Okinawa:
I've also noticed that going direct to the local Philippine airlines is cheaper than going through the online travel sites like kayak or travel velocity.
Philippines: best calling plan to the philippines from the US:
If you sign into YM from your phone & they do the same in the PI then you can text them for free.
To call the PI use www.nobel.com. They have many different calling cards depending on your needs. I like it that you can pick the rate, connection fee, maintenance fee combination that works best for you.
Philippines: American living in Makati seeking employment:
From what I've seen in the rurual areas, the internet cafe has a lot of promise.
In Boracay, the tourist hotels probably have a great need for leveraging technology to reduce costs, payroll, employee time keeping, managing tour events....sure there are opportunities there.
Philippines: direct deposit in ph:
I've found the easiest way to get money from the US to PI is to set up PI bank account & use a transfer service from US bank to PI.
Two that i have used are www.transfast.com & www.xooom.com. Both have flat rates for transfers $7us/$6us repectively.
Xoom usually has your money available in your account in less than one hour. I've only used Transfast once & first time took about one week.
I am getting to retire to Boracay initially in Aug/Sep 2012 timeframe. I have been researching the banking situation, so appreciate all the info I can find on this forum.
Citi Bank has branches in both US & PI. Well Fargo does have arrangement with BPI & exchange rate (last time I checked) was a little better than Xoom, but not as good as Transfast. The transaction fee for Well's fargo was around $5. What I found with Citi Bank was that it cost nothing (transaction fee) to transfer to your PI Citi bank account. I could not get information on exchange rate.
You have to realize it is somewhat a game, since a low transaction fee is often time related to lower exchange rate. You have to look at total cost.
The Citi Bank thing sounded ideal except there is no Citi bank branch on Boracay.
