Mexico: Immigration attorney recommendations:

Why go to the expense of an attorney? Start the process at the Mexican Embassy in your State. When you complete the ritual just come down here with everything - bank statements etc etc - and it's no problem. I can put you in touch with the man who did my Permanente and also worked for other friends. He is English-fluent, helpful and highly efficient and honest.

Mexico: Meeting Expats:

Expats in Vallarta has a website and is very active in organising drinks and other gatherings. you can also contact direct: sarajwise@yahoo.com

Mexico: Costco:

I use a British credit card in Puerto Vallarta. However there appeara to be a small charge for the use of ANY credit card.

Mexico: Living in Mexico:

Unless you settle near the northern border you're far less likely to experience violence here than you are in most places in the US! I live in Puerto Vallarta which is quiet and hot during the summer but has many advantages - although the cost of living is probably higher here. You have a selection of malls and comfortable air-conditioned movie theatres at modest cost. Two amateur drama groups are very active and we have an enthusiastic writers group which publishes an annual anthology. Expat groups hold regular gatherings offering you an opportunity to met others from various countries. Other activities are published in local papers, perhaps the most comprehensive being the PV Mirror. Whilst it is not printed during the summer months you can continue to access it on the web. My advice would be to rent a temporary home for a year until you see which kind of location and neighbours you prefer. You're unlikely ever to speak sufficient Spanish to enjoy a profound conversation but it's a good idea to get a primer and pick up the basics of the language.

Mexico: Retiring Pacific Side:

I doubt whether anybody who is planning to live inexpensively is likely to be to spend much time on golf courses!

Global Expat Forum: INVESTING SAFELY:

I am planning to make an investment very soon. Having been badly bitten before I am a little anxious and don't want to repeat the experience. Does anybody have experience - good or bad - of ABBEY INVESTMENTS (Investment planners who advertise widely) FUNDIOR INVESTMENT LTD registered in The Bahamas with registration No. 162833 B. abd also in Malta

Mexico: best atm inpuerto vallarta:

I will use ATMs at banks - interior or exterior. A friend uses the one at Farmacia Guadalajara in Emiliano Zapata where she tells me she gets a good rate of exchange. NEVER us the machine at the little bank adjoining the Michael Italian Restaurant. Many friends have had problems there..

Mexico: Staying in Puerto Vallarta:

I honesatly ddon;t believe Nuevo is the place for a single man. He won;t have toime to strike up friendships and very little happen out there apart from socialising at home. Centro and Emiliano Zapata are where everything happens. It has just dawned n me that I might consider renting my spare bedroom/bathroom for a short time. I'm in a moderl building with great ocean views, parking, pool etc. Make contact if you're interested. But even Marina Vallarta is a better place to be than Nuevo. Ask ANY of the "permanents" here!

Mexico: Int'l. travel ban for in-cabin pets - to/from Mexico:

The Mexican Tourism Board is collecting call information to pass on t the Minister of Tourism who is heading up the effort with the idiots that put this law in place to have this element struck down. I suggest that you all call in on their 800 number: 1-800-446-39426 (yes there is an extra digit there) and register your complaint. Tell them that you are protesting article 2.1.2 of the DGAE Circular dated May 2012.

Mexico: Expat Novel - Mexico:

I am with the Puerto Vallarta Writers group and could give the book a mention if you let me have more details
